Position: Virginia CDFI Coalition Director (Contract)

The Virginia CDFI Coalition seeks a part‑time Coalition Director to provide day‑to‑day leadership for a growing statewide coalition of Community Development Financial Institutions. This contract role serves as the Coalition’s primary operational staff support and works closely with the Board of Directors to advance member engagement, strengthen organizational systems, coordinate events and communications, and support implementation of the Coalition’s strategic priorities across Virginia.

The Coalition Director will help stabilize and strengthen the Coalition’s volunteer‑led structure by managing core operations, supporting board and committee follow‑through, coordinating membership meetings and convenings, and helping maintain continuity across initiatives. This role is ideal for an organized, relationship‑oriented professional who can work independently, manage multiple projects at once, and communicate effectively with member institutions, partners, funders, and policymakers.

This is a part‑time independent contractor position, anticipated at approximately 10–15 hours per week.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage the Coalition’s day‑to‑day operations, including communications, scheduling, meeting logistics, documentation, and coordination of vendors or contractors as needed.
  • Coordinate and support monthly membership meetings, including agenda development, scheduling, preparation of meeting materials, note‑taking, follow‑up communications, and tracking action items.
  • Lead event planning and project management for the annual Virginia CDFI Summit and other Coalition convenings, including timelines, speaker coordination, vendor management, registration, run‑of‑show planning, and day‑of execution.
  • Serve as a primary point of contact for Coalition members and help foster strong member engagement, participation, and communication across the network.
  • Support the Board of Directors and standing committees by preparing materials, tracking decisions and next steps, and ensuring operational follow‑through on board priorities.
  • Build and maintain productive relationships with Coalition members, funders, public‑sector partners, and other key stakeholders.
  • Oversee communications and storytelling efforts, including newsletters, website updates, member spotlights, impact documentation, and materials that support advocacy and external engagement.
  • Support grant writing and grant reporting in partnership with the Board and funders, including drafting narrative content, collecting impact data, coordinating submissions, and tracking reporting deadlines and deliverables.
  • Provide operational and administrative support as needed to help stabilize the Coalition’s volunteer‑led structure, strengthen systems, and advance priority initiatives.
Qualifications
  • At least five years of experience in nonprofit management, coalition or association management, community development, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently with limited day‑to‑day supervision and to exercise sound judgment on behalf of an organization.
  • Strong project management and organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple work streams and deadlines simultaneously.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience coordinating meetings, events, or stakeholder engagement processes.
  • Ability to build relationships with diverse partners and represent the Coalition professionally in external settings.
Preferred Experience
  • Experience with CDFIs, community development finance, or the broader community development ecosystem.
  • Familiarity with Virginia’s policy, philanthropic, or nonprofit landscape.
  • Experience working with a volunteer board of directors and supporting board committees.
  • Experience supervising interns, fellows, Ameri Corps VISTA members, or other junior staff.
  • Experience with fundraising support, grant writing, and grant reporting.
