Grants Coordinator

The Richmond and Henrico Public Health Foundation (RHPHF) is seeking a qualified candidate to assist with the Foundation’s Health Equity Fund (HEF), a first-in-Virginia municipal initiative focused on investing in community interventions to address health disparities and the legacies of structural racism, past and present. The HEF was established with an investment of $5 million from the City of Richmond’s federal American Rescue Plan local relief funds and has run application and funding cycles since 2023.

The Grants Coordinator’s work will focus primarily on the HEF, but may expand to additional RHPHF grant programs in the future. The Grants Manager will work with the Interim Managing Director, the Foundation’s Board of Directors, the City’s public health district staff, and a host of community partners and health equity leaders to help support HEF partners during application and funding cycles.

• Grantmaking Administration
  • Work closely with the Managing Director and the Board to facilitate application and funding cycles.
  • Work with the Managing Director to coordinate regular meetings of the Community Advisory Committee (CAC), preparing agendas in coordination with health district staff, and cultivating collaborative relationships with CAC members.
  • Other duties as assigned from the RHPHF Board and Managing Director.
• Technical Assistance and Capacity Building for Partners
  • Provide direct technical assistance to applicants throughout the application process.
  • Conduct application workshops, office hours, and one‑on‑one consultations.
  • Develop TA resources including guides, templates, and training materials.
  • Assess grantee capacity‑building needs and coordinate specialized support.
  • Facilitate peer learning opportunities among funded partners.
  • Support grantees in data collection, evaluation, and reporting.
  • Connect organizations to capacity‑building resources and service providers.

• Willingness to collaborate with foundation staff and partners.
• Proposals and advocacy for new ideas that advance the Foundation’s mission.
• Understanding of Richmond’s health disparities, root causes, and emerging evidence to address them.
• Background and/or degree/training in public health, nonprofit management, public administration, or similar.
• Passion for health equity with demonstrated experience building programs that impact disparities and elevate community‑driven solutions.
• Strong and adaptive administrative skills.

• Bachelor's degree in public health, social work, nonprofit management, or related field (Master's preferred).
• Minimum 3-5 years experience in grantmaking, program management, or nonprofit capacity building.
• Demonstrated experience working with community‑based organizations, particularly grassroots and emerging organizations.
• Strong understanding of health equity and social determinants of health.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Proficiency in grants management systems and databases.
• Bilingual (English/Spanish) strongly preferred.
• Commitment to equity, inclusion, and community‑centered approaches.

The position is full‑time and is based in Richmond (flexibility on location for the right candidate who can be in Richmond regularly). Salary ranges from $60,000 to $64,000 per year, depending on experience and skills. Benefits include paid holidays, accrued paid time off, and employer‑sponsored health and vision insurance through Anthem and dental insurance through Delta Dental. Funding for the position is secured through July 2028 with RHPHF committed to identifying means to sustain the position into the future.
