SUMMARYEngage youth using a variety of technologies and/or face-to-face meetings, to provide appropriate strategies and activities that support, guide, and educate current and former foster care youth to advocate and lead change, as well as develop their life skills to support them in their transition to adulthood.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Develop ongoing networking opportunities for youth to meet and connect with one another.

Teach leadership skills and encourage youth to advocate for themselves with education institutions, departments of social services, legislators, and other applicable groups. Be the liaison between the VDSS SPEAKOUT advocacy group and Project LIFE.Engage youth and identify those who can provide feedback to local, regional, and state representatives on policy, guidance,and legislation.

Use social media or other forms of communication to engage youth and provide them with guidance, information, support,and resources.

Plan and deliver learning opportunities, including workshops, training, and/or webinars, for youth to develop leadership, advocacy, and life skills.

Assist in planning and carrying out statewide youth conferences.

Provide training to youth on the National Youth in Transition Database (NTYD).Educate work groups, committees, and other organizers on youth involvement activities.

Collaborate with local departments of social services, private agencies, and other organizations to plan and implement youth activities throughout the region.

Must be able to frequently travel and drive to the Department of social services sites, regional and other pertinent meetings, conferences, and youth events. Some travel will involve overnight stay and long distances.
