Our state-of-the-art Pediatric Operating Room (OR) is nestled within the heart of the Children’s Hospital of Richmond, which opened in April 2023. Our Pediatric Perioperative Services Team has revolutionized pediatric care in the Richmond Region, offering comprehensive services around the clock.
Equipped with six meticulously designed Operating Rooms and two dedicated Procedure Rooms, our facility ensures that pediatric patients receive the highest standard of care in a caring, child-friendly environment. With around-the-clock care, we handle a daily caseload ranging from 12 to 24 cases, catering to a diverse array of specialties including Otolaryngology (ENT), Genitourinary (GU), Orthopedics, General, Neuro, Cardiac, and Trauma procedures.
We prioritize excellence in care, drawing on a team of highly skilled professionals committed to the well-being and comfort of every patient. While experience within a Level 1 Pediatric OR is highly valued, we also welcome Operating Room Nurses with a minimum of 1 year of OR experience who possess a passion for pediatric care and a dedication to excellence.

Responsibilities- Independent action:
Follows documented physician/licensed independent provider orders. Practices within the boundaries of the regulations governing the practice of nursing in the Commonwealth of Virginia. Practice is guided by the ANA Code of Ethics for Nursing and established national nursing practice standards. All practice is guided by and follows the VCUHS policies and procedures and established practice. - Supervisory responsibilities (as applicable):
Organizes work and delegates and supervises others (RNs, LPNs, Care Partners, Unit Secretaries, etc.) in carrying out assignments. - Schedule and shifts:
Clinician works all three shifts, weekends and holidays. Individual shift rotation and schedules established with the Nurse Manager/Practice Manager. Schedules may be adjusted to meet unit requirements.
- Licensure, Certification, or Registration:
Clin I, Clin II, Clin III – Current RN licensure in Virginia or eligible or compact state licensure. - Continued employment requirements:
Clin I, Clin II, Clin III – Current RN licensure in Virginia; AHA BLS HCP Certification or equivalent. - Experience –
Required:
Clin I: N/A;
Clin II: 12 to 24 months RN experience;
Clin III: 3 years of clinical experience. - Experience – Preferred:
Clin I – Experience as an LPN, nursing assistant, or care partner in acute care or relevant practice area;
Clin II/III – Academic Health Care Experience; experience with a similar patient population in acute care or related practice area. - Education/Training –
Required:
Clin I–III:
Diploma or Associate Degree in Nursing from an approved program. All RNs without a Bachelor's degree will be required to enroll in an approved RN to BSN program within two years of start date and complete within five years, unless grandfathered under previous requirements. - Education/Training – Preferred:
Clin I–III:
Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (or higher) from an accredited program;
Clin III:
Certification in specialty area.
Independent action is to follow physician/licensed independent provider orders. Practice is guided by Virginia nursing regulations, ANA Code of Ethics, and national standards. All practice follows VCUHS policies and procedures and established practice guidelines.
Schedule, Work Environment, andPhysical Requirements
- Clinician’s work includes three shifts, weekends, and holidays. Shift rotation and hours may adjust to unit needs.
- Physical requirements:
Lifting up to 20 lbs; prolonged standing and sitting; frequent bending; walking; climbing; reaching; sensory and cognitive demands; ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple priorities; accommodate a noisy environment.
Weekend Night shifts may apply; reference to local scheduling will be provided by the Nurse Manager/Practice Manager.
