This role integrates technical skills and theoretical knowledge to meet the needs of patients and families. The Clinical Nurse I, II, and III positions provide direct patient care, education, and leadership at the unit level, ensuring accurate documentation and safe medication administration.

• Assist the health care team with prevention of illness and injury, maintenance of wellness, and provision of comfort.
• Deliver and accurately document direct, age‑specific care to patients or groups based on medical orders and a multidisciplinary plan of care.
• Safely administer prescribed medications, identifying incompatibilities and/or interactions.
• Provide direction, education, and begin to acquire leadership skills at the unit level.

• Demonstrates mastery of clinical skills and applies knowledge to a specific patient population.
• Assists with prevention of illness and injury, maintenance of wellness, and provision of comfort.
• Recognizes changes in patient situations and intervenes appropriately.
• Mobilizes resources to meet individualized needs of patient/families.
• Provides direction, education, and assumes leadership responsibilities at the unit level.
• Delivers and accurately document direct, age‑specific care; administer medications safely.

• Demonstrates clinical knowledge at the unit level and applies it to a specific patient population.
• Anticipates changes in patient situations and intervenes appropriately.
• Provides direction, education, and serves as a role model in a clinical setting.
• Delivers and documents direct age‑specific care; safely administer medications.

• Current RN licensure in Virginia or eligible from a compact state (for Clin I, II, III).

• Current RN licensure in Virginia.
• AHA BLS HCP Certification or equivalent (for Clin I, II, III).

• Clin I: N/A.
• Clin II: 12 to 24 months RN experience.
• Clin III: 3 years of clinical experience.

• Clin I:
  Experience as an LPN, nursing assistant, or care partner in an acute care setting or relevant area.
• Clin II & Clin III:
  Academic Health Care Experience and experience with similar patient populations in acute care or relevant area.

• Clin I, II, & III:
  Diploma or Associates Degree from a professional nursing program recognized/approved by the state Board of Nursing.
• All registered nurses without a BSN must enroll in an approved RN to BSN program within two years of start date and complete within five years unless grandfathered.

• Clin I, II, & III:
  Completion of a Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (or higher) from an accredited program.
• Clin III:
  Certification in a specialty area.

• Follow documented physician/licensed independent provider orders.
• Practice within the boundaries of nursing regulations in Virginia.
• Practice guided by ANA Code of Ethics and national nursing standards.
• Follow VCUHS policies and procedures.

• Organize work; delegate and supervise others (RN's, LPN's, Care Partners, Unit Secretaries, etc.).

• Lifting 20‑50 lbs.
• Exposure to potentially hazardous and infectious substances.
• Prolonged standing, sitting; frequent bending, walking, climbing, reaching.
• Strong recall, reasoning, problem solving; hearing, speak clearly, write legibly, reading, logical thinking.
• Fast‑pace environment; steady pace, handle multiple priorities; frequent intense customer interactions; noisy environment.
