About Our Pediatric OROur state‑of‑the‑art Pediatric Operating Room (OR) is nestled within the heart of the Children's Hospital of Richmond, which proudly opened its doors in April 2023. Our Pediatric Perioperative Services Team has revolutionized pediatric care in the Richmond Region, offering comprehensive services around the clock.
Equipped with six meticulously designed Operating Rooms and two dedicated Procedure Rooms, our facility ensures that pediatric patients receive the highest standard of care in a caring, child‑friendly environment.
Daily CaseloadWe handle a daily caseload ranging from 12 to 24 cases, catering to a diverse array of specialties including Otolaryngology (ENT), Genitourinary (GU), Orthopedics, General, Neuro, Cardiac, and Trauma procedures.
Qualifications & Experience- Experience
Required:- Clin I: N/A
- Clin II: 12 to 24 months RN experience
- Clin III: 3 years of clinical experience
- Experience Preferred:
- Clin I:
Experience as an LPN, nursing assistant or care partner in an acute‑care setting or relevant area of practice - Clin II & III:
Academic Health Care Experience;
Experience with similar patient populations in an acute‑care setting or relevant area of practice

Diploma or Associate’s Degree from a professional nursing program recognized and/or approved by the state Board of Nursing

Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (or higher) from an accredited program - Clin III:
Certification in a specialty area

Current RN licensure in Virginia or eligible/compact state - Required for Continued Employment: Clin I, II, III:
Current RN licensure in Virginia, AHA BLS HCP Certification or equivalent
- Follows documented physician/licensed independent provider orders.
- Practices within the boundaries of Virginia nursing regulations.
- Guided by the ANA Code of Ethics and national nursing standards.
- Guided by the VCUHS policies and procedures.
- Organizes work and delegates and supervises others (RN, LPN, Care Partners, Unit Secretaries, etc.) in carrying out assignments.
Position Requirements
- Clin I, II, III:
Work all three shifts, weekends and holidays. - Individual shift rotation and schedules will be established with your Nurse Manager/Practice Manager.
- Schedule flexibility to meet unit requirements.
As appropriate based on unit assignment.
Physical, Mental, and Emotional Requirements- Physical: Lifting 20 lbs;
Exposure to potentially hazardous and infectious substances;
Prolonged standing, sitting, bending, walking, climbing, reaching. - Mental/Sensory: Strong recall, reasoning, problem solving, hearing, clear speech, legible writing, reading, logical thinking.
- Emotional: Fast‑pace environment, steady pace, handle multiple priorities, frequent intense customer interactions, noisy environment.
Weekend night shifts are available.
