Registered Nurse is a vital member of the Ambulatory Nursing/Primary Care Team, Richmond Virginia VAMC.

- Establish nursing diagnoses.
- Provide health education and procedural teaching to patients and significant others.
- Administer and evaluate pharmacological and other therapeutic treatment regimens.
- Administer medicine.
- Administer injections, vaccines, etc.
- Establish priorities and make ethically‑sound decisions to ensure safe patient care.
- Assist physicians during diagnostic and therapeutic procedures to promote optimal patient outcomes by team collaboration.
- Respond to emergency situations to promote optimal patient outcomes by recognizing changes in patients' health status.
- Perform diagnostic studies within the scope of nursing practice as ordered by the physician.
- Document patient data to ensure continuity in the provision and coordination of patient care.
- Collaborate with other health‑care professionals.
- Communicate with veterans and family members regarding veteran's care.
- May be responsible for charge nurse duties.
- Manage follow‑up care.
- Act as a resource to others.
- Participate in continuing educational activities, achieving/maintaining certification.
- Possess knowledge of unit level performance measures and participate in quality improvement monitoring.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
U.S. Citizenship is required; non‑citizens may only be appointed where it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
Applicants will be required to pass urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use; refusal will result in denial of employment.
Selective Service registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959.
All applicants will be subject to background/security investigation.
Applicants must hold 1 full and unrestricted nursing license from any U.S. State or territory.
Must pass a pre‑employment physical examination.
Participation in the seasonal influenza vaccination program is required for all Department of Veterans Affairs Health Care Personnel.
Proficient in the use of computer systems and electronic medical records.
Experience as an RN, including volunteer experiences, will be evaluated on practice, veteran/patient‑driven care, leadership, professional development and evidence‑based practice.
