Job OverviewThe Clinical Nurse I/II/III roles integrate technical skills and theoretical knowledge to meet the needs of patients and families. They assist the health care team in preventing illness, maintaining wellness, and providing comfort.
Responsibilities- Clinical Nurse I:
Assist the health care team with prevention of illness and injury, maintenance of wellness, and provision of comfort; provide direction, education, and begin to acquire leadership skills at the unit level; deliver and accurately document direct, age‑specific care; safely administer prescribed medications while identifying incompatibilities or interactions. - Clinical Nurse II:
Demonstrate mastery of clinical skills and apply knowledge to a specific patient population; recognize changes in patient situations and intervene appropriately; mobilize resources to meet individualized needs; provide direction, education, and assume leadership responsibilities at the unit level; deliver and accurately document direct, age‑specific care; safely administer prescribed medications while identifying incompatibilities or interactions. - Clinical Nurse III:
Demonstrate clinical knowledge at the unit level and apply it to a specific patient population; anticipate changes in patient situations and intervene appropriately; provide direction, education, and serve as a role model in a clinical setting; deliver and accurately document direct, age‑specific care; safely administer prescribed medications while identifying incompatibilities or interactions.
- For Hiring:
Current RN licensure in Virginia or eligible/compact state (all levels). - For Continued Employment:
Current RN licensure in Virginia; AHA BLS HCP Certification or equivalent (all levels).
- Clinical Nurse I: N/A.
- Clinical Nurse II: 12–24 months RN experience.
- Clinical Nurse III: 3 years of clinical experience.
Preferred Experience:
Clinical Nurse I – experience as an LPN, nursing assistant, or care partner in an acute care setting or applicable area of practice;
Clinical Nurse II & III – academic health care experience and experience with similar patient population in an acute care setting or applicable area of practice.
- All levels:
Diploma or Associate’s Degree from a professional nursing program recognized and/or approved by the state Board of Nursing. - All registered nurses without a Bachelor’s degree in Nursing (or higher) will be required to enroll in an approved RN to BSN program within two years of their start date and complete the program within five years of their start date unless grandfathered under previous requirements.
- Preferred education:
Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (or higher) from an accredited program. - Clinical Nurse III:
Certification in specialty area.
Clinicians work all three shifts, weekends and holidays. Individual shift rotation and schedules will be established with your specific Nurse Manager/Practice Manager. Schedules, including requirements of shift rotations and hours of work may be adjusted as needed to meet unit requirements and/or as needed.
Physical Requirements- Physical:
Lifting 20–50 lbs.; exposure to potentially hazardous and infectious substances. - Activities:
Prolonged standing, prolonged sitting, frequent bending, walking, climbing, reaching overhead. - Mental/Sensory:
Strong recall, reasoning, problem solving, hearing, speak clearly, write legibly, read, logical thinking. - Emotional:
Fast‑pace environment, steady pace, able to handle multiple priorities, frequent and intense customer interactions, noisy environment.
