The Neurosurgery Care Coordinator RN is responsible for a high level of expertise in the assessment and treatment of patients with neurological disorders requiring surgery. This role will function to support the flow of care across the inpatient and outpatient systems and provide support under the full spectrum of care, from patient triage to care delivery. This position will function to address the complex responses of individuals, families, or communities to actual or potential health problems, prevention of illness and injury, maintenance of wellness, and provision of comfort.
Neurosurgical nurse coordinators possess a greater depth and breadth of knowledge, a greater degree of synthesis of data, and complexity of skills and intervention.

Licensure, Certification, or Registration Requirements for HireCurrent RN licensure in Virginia or eligible or compact state.
Licensure, Certification, or Registration Requirements for continued employmentCurrent RN licensure in Virginia. AHA, BLS, or HCP certification or equivalent.
Experience REQUIREDThree (3) years experience as an RN in a specialty setting, such as Surgery or Neurology.
Demonstrated clinical expertise for the patient population served.
Experience PREFERREDPrevious experience with neurological diseases.
Previous experience with clinical trials.
Previous experience in both the inpatient and outpatient arenas.
Advanced practitioner skills & judgment.
Education/training REQUIREDBaccalaureate Degree in Nursing from an accredited School of Nursing.
Education/training PREFERREDMasters Degree in Nursing from an accredited School of Nursing.
Certification in specialty area.
Independent action(s) requiredClinical decision-making in collaboration with physicians and daily prioritization of activities. The allocation of time spent in patient care and elsewhere is largely directed by the physician staff.
