Adjunct Faculty – Allied Health Nursing Studies – Registered Nurse (

Virginia Peninsula Community College.
Location:
Hampton. Salary: $781–$1,305 per credit hour. Teaching load up to 12 credit hours in fall and spring semesters and up to 8 credit hours in summer. Instruction may be conducted during day, evening, or weekend and include lecture, lab, simulation, skills, and/or clinical formats. The appointment contains no guarantee of continued employment.
- Design and delivery of instruction for day and evening classes.
- Responsible for student assessment and grading.
- Maintains adequate on‑campus presence.
- Provides timely communication with students, staff and administrators of the College.
May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.
Required Qualifications- Current unrestricted license to practice as a registered nurse in Virginia or higher medical license (e.g., Physician Assistant, Nurse Practitioner, or Medical Doctor).
- Bachelor’s of Science degree in Nursing, Nursing Education, Nursing Administration, Health Informatics, or another related degree from a regionally accredited institution/program.
- Current CPR certification and documentation of all routine healthcare employee immunizations.
- Passion for the discipline and commitment to a student‑centered philosophy supporting academic excellence for diverse learners.
- Excellent interpersonal skills in communication with students, colleagues, staff and administrators, both individually and as part of a team.
- Willingness to serve the needs of traditional and non‑traditional students from a variety of backgrounds and age groups.
- Ability to modify instructional methods and strategies when appropriate to meet diverse student needs.
- Plan and organize instruction to maximize documented student learning.
- Adopt methods that fairly measure student progress toward learning outcomes.
- Evaluate student performance fairly and consistently and return student work promptly to promote maximum learning.
- Maintain accurate records of student progress and submit final grade rosters to division administrator each semester according to established deadlines.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Experience and/or strong interest in teaching and inspiring adult learners to fulfill the College’s mission to change lives and empower students to succeed.
- Ability to travel to both campuses and various clinical sites.
- Master’s Degree in Nursing, Nursing Education, Nursing Administration, Health Informatics, or another related degree from a regionally accredited institution/program.
- Two years full‑time work experience as a registered nurse, or higher medical license or degree (e.g., Physician Assistant, Nurse Practitioner, or Medical Doctor).
- Teaching and/or preceptorship experience.
- Experience with clinical simulation in nursing education.
- Community college teaching experience.
- Teaching experience in online or hybrid, and traditional face‑to‑face classroom modalities.
- Demonstrated proficiency and experience in using instructional technologies and learning management systems (e.g., Canvas) with the ability to use technology to enhance teaching and educational experience.
- Demonstrated ability to measure, assess and align student outcomes within courses or programs.
