The 47 bed Transitional Care Unit at CHoR Brook Road is VCU Health Care Systems pediatric long term care facility. The transitional care unit provides care to children with tracheotomies, G tubes, and ventilators. More than 30 children call our Transitional Care Unit home. While we are their nurses, therapists, dentists and specialists – we are also their teachers, recreation therapists, neighbors and friends.
The Certified Nursing Assistant provides restorative nursing care for residents under the direction of the Nursing and/or Rehab staff to maximize and maintain the physical functioning and emotional wellness of the residents.
The Certified Nursing Assistant acts as an extender to Nurses, Physical Therapists, Occupational Therapist and/or Speech Therapists, performing nursing and/or rehab procedures and resident care tasks within scope of competence and in compliance with hospital policies and procedures.
Qualifications and Certification- Current Certified Nursing Assistant certification (required for hire and continued employment)
- Current CPR or BLS certification within 60 days of employment (depending on setting)
- Previous experience providing activities of daily living, monitoring vital signs, and caring for the physical and emotional needs of patients
- Previous experience using a personnel computer, keyboard and mouse
- Previous work experience in a long-term care setting
- High School Diploma or equivalent (required)
- Preferred education not applicable
- Provides direct hands‑on treatment under the guidance and supervision of licensed nursing and/or rehab staff and in compliance with hospital policy of unlicensed staff
- Maintains a safe and resident‑friendly environment of care
- Resident equipment and materials are kept in good repair
- Maintains residents' personal items and environment to optimize care and safety
- Reports to licensed nurse and/or rehab therapists any changes in condition or concerns regarding residents and seeks assistance as needed
- Participates in department and team projects as directed
- Performs duties within scope of certified nursing assistant role
Position Requirements
- Required to work all three shifts, weekends and holidays
- Individual shift rotations and schedules will be determined by supervisor
As appropriate based on unit assignment.
