- Deliver and accurately document direct, age-specific nursing care based on medical orders and an integrated, multidisciplinary plan of care
- Assist the health care team with prevention of illness and injury, maintenance of wellness, and provision of comfort
- Recognize or anticipate changes in patient situations and intervene appropriately
- Mobilize resources to meet individualized patient and family needs
- Safely administer prescribed medications, identifying incompatibilities and interactions
- Provide direction and education to patients, families, and team members
- Organize work and delegate and supervise RNs, LPNs, Care Partners, Unit Secretaries, and others
- Follow physician/licensed independent provider orders and nursing regulations in the Commonwealth of Virginia
- Follow ANA Code of Ethics, national nursing practice standards, and VCUHS policies and procedures
- Work rotating shifts, weekends, and holidays according to unit requirements
- Current RN licensure in Virginia or eligible or compact state for hire
- Current RN licensure in Virginia for continued employment
- AHA BLS HCP Certification or equivalent for continued employment
- Diploma or Associates Degree from a professional nursing program recognized and/or approved by the corresponding state’s Board of Nursing
- Clin II: 12 to 24 months RN experience
- Clin III: 3 years of clinical experience
- Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (or higher) required within stated RN-to-BSN timeframe for nurses without a BSN, unless grandfathered
- Ability to work all three shifts, weekends and holidays
- Ability to lift 20–50 lbs.
- Ability to handle exposure to potentially hazardous and infectious substances
- Prolonged standing and sitting; frequent bending; walking; climbing; overhead, extensive, and repetitive reaching
- Strong recall, reasoning, problem solving, hearing, clear speech, legible writing, reading, and logical thinking
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, noisy environment and handle multiple priorities and frequent, intense customer interactions
Demonstrates expertise in delivering age-specific nursing care, administering medications safely, and providing education to patients and families. Proficient in organizing and supervising nursing staff while adhering to nursing regulations and ethical standards.
