Registered Nurse – Pediatric Emergency Department

• Integrate technical skills and theoretical knowledge to meet patient and family needs
• Assist the health care team with illness and injury prevention, wellness maintenance, and patient comfort
• Provide direction and education and develop or assume unit-level leadership responsibilities depending on clinical level
• Deliver and accurately document direct, age-specific patient care based on medical orders and an integrated multidisciplinary plan
• Safely administer prescribed medications and identify incompatibilities or interactions
• Recognize or anticipate changes in patient situations and intervene appropriately
• Mobilize resources to meet individualized patient and family needs
• Serve as a clinical role model for staff, depending on clinical level
• Organize work and delegate and supervise RNs, LPNs, Care Partners, Unit Secretaries, and others
• Follow physician/licensed independent provider orders and nursing regulations, ANA ethics, VCUHS policies, and established practice standards

• Current RN licensure in Virginia or eligible or compact state
• Current RN licensure in Virginia for continued employment
• AHA BLS HCP Certification or equivalent
• Diploma or Associates Degree from a professional nursing program recognized and/or approved by the corresponding state’s Board of Nursing
• Registered nurses without a Bachelor's degree in Nursing (or higher) must enroll in an approved RN to BSN program within two years of their start date and complete it within five years, unless grandfathered
• Clin II: 12 to 24 months RN experience
• Clin III: 3 years of clinical experience
• Clin I preferred:
  Experience as an LPN, nursing assistant or care partner in an acute care setting or applicable practice area
• Clin II/III preferred:
  Academic Health Care Experience; experience with a similar patient population in an acute care setting or applicable practice area
• Clin I/II/III work all three shifts, weekends and holidays
• Ability to lift 20–50 lbs
• Ability to handle potentially hazardous and infectious substances
• Prolonged standing and sitting; frequent bending; walking; climbing; overhead, extensive, and repetitive reaching
• Strong recall, reasoning, problem solving, hearing, clear speech, legible writing, reading, and logical thinking
• Ability to work in a fast-paced, noisy environment, handle multiple priorities, and manage frequent and intense customer interactions

Demonstrates strong clinical skills in patient care, medication administration, and interdisciplinary collaboration while adhering to nursing regulations and ethical standards. Capable of leading and educating nursing staff, managing patient needs, and effectively organizing unit operations.
