Position Title
Building and Grounds Technician (Trades Technician I) – part‑time, 29 hours per week.
Job ClassificationRole Code 79031, FLSA Non‑Exempt.
LocationWarsaw campus, Richmond County, Virginia.
SalaryHourly pay base $18.00 per hour, commensurate with experience, no less than $18.00 per hour.
Work SchedulePart time, with occasional evenings, weekends, holidays, and overtime required, and essential on campus during closures.
Job SummaryReports to the Facility Manager. Performs maintenance and upkeep of college equipment, facilities, and grounds to ensure a safe and high‑quality environment for faculty, students, visitors, and staff.
Responsibilities- Grounds maintenance and equipment use: mowing, fertilizing, watering, pruning, planting, mulching, edging.
- Grounds equipment and hand‑tool maintenance: blowers, weed eaters, chainsaws, pole saws, edgers, hedge trimmers.
- Routine and preventative heavy machinery maintenance: walk‑behind mowers, zero‑turn mowers, riding mowers, tractors, forklifts, golf carts, boom lifts.
- Physical plant upkeep (plant shop, college spaces, storage areas).
- Logistics assistance: supply pick‑up, deliveries, moving heavy materials, furniture, and refuse.
- Assistance with plumbing, electrical, carpentry, painting, and masonry maintenance.
- Other duties as assigned.

- Assist the agency or state government in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.
- Knowledge of best‑practice techniques in landscaping, grounds maintenance and installation.
- Working knowledge of all related maintenance hand tools, machinery, power tools, and equipment.
- Demonstrated ability to perform routine maintenance on heavy grounds machinery and hand tools.
- Prior work experience and training in grounds maintenance.
- Flexibility and adaptability.
- Effective interpersonal skills.
- Ability to learn new skills and techniques.
- Follow department and college safety procedures.
- Current Virginia driver’s license with an insurable record.
- Ability to acquire and maintain an applicator’s license.
- Computer proficiency.
Operation of a state vehicle: yes. Supervises employees: no. Required travel: may be required between campuses and RCC sites.
