Senior Research Scientist - Department of Cellular, Molecular, and Genetic Medicine
Virginia Commonwealth University School of Medicine invites applications for the Senior Research Scientist - Department of Cellular, Molecular, and Genetic Medicine. The position begins 12/01/2025 (or as soon as possible) in the laboratory of Dr. Paul B. Fisher. The laboratory focuses on understanding cancer progression from tumor and microenvironmental perspectives and developing genetic and pharmaceutical tools to block tumor cell dissemination and growth.

The ideal candidate will have flow cytometry (CyTek), experience with GEM and transplantable tumor models, cell and vector engineering, extensive cell culture and molecular biology (Western blotting, PCR, QPCR, etc.). They must be detail oriented, maintain a detailed laboratory notebook, work independently, process data, and draft manuscripts.
- Train undergraduate and graduate students in experimental design and data analysis
- Wet bench research activities
- Execute diverse activities outlined in the grant, including manipulation of immune cells derived from human or mouse sources
- Evaluate the therapeutic efficacy of modified cells in in‑vitro and in‑vivo experiments
- Prepare data for presentation and publication
- Collaborate with fellow researchers to support their investigations
- Assist the mentor or designated personnel in organizing laboratory responsibilities
- Conduct scholarly activities including paper writing, reviewing papers, grant writing, and reviewing scientific proposals
- Review papers and curate scientific updates from Pub Med and other databases; prepare review and primary articles per the Principal Investigator’s recommendations
- Organize preliminary data for grant and progress reports and maintain raw data securely
- Assist students in developing monthly reports and thesis as per the mentor’s proposal
Minimum Qualifications: PhD with molecular and/or cell biology experience.
Preferred Qualifications: Experience in immunology and bioinformatics.

Salary and Other DetailsSalary Range: $65,000–$73,000
