Senior Lab Technician / Lab Technologist – Defense
Location:
Richmond, VA (full‑time, primarily on‑site with hybrid flexibility).

About the Role: The Defense segment of Arclin focuses on personal protection for soldiers and law enforcement agencies worldwide. The Senior Lab Technician will assist research scientists and engineers, operating the composites lab and ballistics range, preparing test samples, performing end‑use performance evaluations, and managing data to support new material and process development. The role requires independent experimental work, data analysis, troubleshooting, safety audits, and documentation.
Responsibilities- Assist and participate in the invention process with other professionals.
- Conduct experiments to completion according to specific procedures, exercising independent judgment and discretion as appropriate.
- Maintain, organize, and summarize results of experiments, including notebook entries, regulatory documentation, data analysis, and technical reports.
- Maintain chemical and sample inventory, coordinate outside laboratory testing, and ship samples following DOT requirements.
- Inspect, use, and maintain research equipment, performing routine maintenance and troubleshooting, and implementing refinements to technologies and methodologies.
- Write and maintain standard operating procedures (SOP) and safety documentation.
- Perform physical lifting and work in varying ergonomic environments.
- Work safely with hazardous chemicals, materials, and solvents.
- Use Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook for reporting and documentation.
- Communicate findings verbally and in writing, and collaborate with a diverse team.
- Interpret experimental data and suggest modifications.
- Plan projects and multitask to meet established deadlines.
- Manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- B.S. in physical science (chemistry, organic chemistry, physics), engineering, or related field, and/or several years of experience in a similar research laboratory.
- Experience using CAD software to support automated lab equipment routines (preferred).
- Some travel may be required (less than 10%).
