About the Role
This role reports into the Site and Capability team. In this role you will serve as a Senior Scientist in the R&D Product Chemistry Group reporting to the group Director. The purpose of this R&D global support group is to gain insight on how our product chemistry links to product performance. Here we support our formulation teams in early‑stage product development with an eye toward exploiting the chemistry/performance link toward product claims and performance visualizations.
Additionally, this product chemistry understanding is used to assist our regulatory and legal partners speak to the safety and efficacy of our product.
- Utilize mass spectrometry and allied techniques (i.e. NMR, IR spectroscopy) to characterize structure and ascertain interactions of formulation ingredients.
- Design sample preparation strategies to isolate analyte of interest from multi‑component dosage forms including viscous liquids, gels, ointments, creams and solids.
- Perform trace analysis using mass spectrometry with various combinations of chromatography and other hyphenated techniques.
- Perform routine maintenance on mass spectrometry instruments to ensure consistent performance.
- Design and execute characterization strategies to support regulatory submissions, patent applications and claims substantiation.
- Engage in problem‑solving activities by interpreting data sets from multiple characterization approaches.
- Justify the meaning of experimental data as it applies to product development milestone achievement.
- Business Awareness – Understand the basic utility of allied functions in R&D, Quality and Commercial so as to actively bring our science forward when opportunities present.
- Critical Thinking.
- Have a well‑rounded understanding of the product development process and be able to apply problem solving methodologies to unexpected technical issues.
- Demonstrated experience writing technical reports and communicating technical data to technical and non‑technical associates alike.
- Have fundamental understanding of molecular structure, kinetics and thermodynamics.
- Must be mechanically inclined to enable hyphenation of unusual instrument sequences.
- Must work as a team member and want to listen and learn.
- Have the desire to teach junior level Scientists.
- Should want to work in the laboratory as a hands‑on Scientist.
