Job DescriptionThe Scientist I, Gas Chromatography Analytics performs routine and investigative gas chromatography analyses supporting product characterization, quality assessments, and scientific studies. The role supports sample preparation, analytical testing, data review, and laboratory operations under established procedures, including GC/MS profiling and ASAP chemical analysis.
Job Responsibilities- Perform GC based analyses according to approved methods.
- Conduct GC/MS profiling in support of ASAP chemical analysis and related studies.
- Prepare samples and analytical standards.
- Review analytical results and identify potential issues.
- Assist with method qualification and optimization activities.
- Flex to support post treatment chemical analysis.
- Maintain instrumentation and laboratory documentation.
- Support quality and compliance requirements.
- Collaborate with laboratory teams to meet project objectives.
- Maintain training and compliance in areas of health and safety, security, environmental and operational aspects of daily activities in the working environment.
- Hands‑on experience operating GC and GC‑MS instrumentation.
- Competence in sample and standard preparation.
- Ability to review data for accuracy and flag anomalies.
- Familiarity with chromatography data systems.
- Strong attention to detail and good written and verbal communication.
- Proficiency with Excel, Word, and other Microsoft products.
- Basic knowledge of safety and laboratory practices.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry or a related discipline.
- or Associates degree in Chemistry or related discipline with 4 years of relevant experience.
- or High School Diploma with 6 plus years of relevant experience.
- Experience with GC instrumentation.
- Experience with GC/MS profiling.
- Experience in an analytical testing laboratory.
Must be able to work in a laboratory, controlled environments requiring personal protective equipment (e.g., lab coat, safety glasses). Job pace may be fast and job completion demands may be high. Must be able to remain in a stationary position more than 25% of the time. The person may occasionally move between labs, corridors, adjoining rooms, and buildings onsite. Frequently operate instruments, objects, tools, or controls, requiring regularly bending, squatting, stretching and reaching.
Occasionally move or lift up to 25 pounds (potential for occasional lifting up to 50 pounds). Vision requirements include close‑range detail, color, peripheral, depth perception and focus adjustment. May be required to handle hazardous waste per local, state, and federal regulations. May need to complete Medical Clearance, Respiratory Protection Training and Fit Testing for respirator use.
The annual compensation range for this full‑time position is $60,000 to $76,000.
