Job Description

Full‑time Security Officer position, primarily covering the midnight shift at the Chester campus. Incumbents must be flexible and available to fill in for other shifts at both the Chester and Midlothian locations.

Responsibilities

Enforce college, local, and state rules and regulations; inspect assigned areas; document incidents; secure buildings; and monitor visitor access. Specific duties include reporting discrepancies and hazardous conditions; conducting foot and vehicular patrols; monitoring surveillance cameras; responding to emergencies; and providing security for special events such as convocations, registration, and other college functions.

Special Assignments

May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.

Qualifications

Considerable experience in a security or law‑enforcement environment is required. Campus Security Officer Certification is required or must be obtained within 180 days of hire. A valid Virginia driver’s license and a satisfactory driving record are required. This position involves moderate lifting and extensive walking. The ability to maintain a positive, productive, and cooperative attitude and to work effectively as a team player is essential.

Experience providing excellent customer service is required. The position requires flexibility to work weekends and day, evening, and night shifts.

Successful completion and passing of a criminal background check is required.
