Overview
The Security Officer performs duties to ensure campus-wide safety and security operations, including emergency preparedness and perimeter security, to provide a safe and secure environment for the community.
Shift and ScheduleFull Time, Overnight
10pm to 6am, rotating weekly schedule with every other weekend off, and two weekdays off when weekend work is required.
Responsibilities- Provide escorts, perform community-wide security patrols, check property for safety and security hazards, secure buildings, install/remove security locks, and respond to alarms
- Investigate offenses, incidents, injuries, accidents, thefts, threats and other unusual occurrences; submit clear and concise case reports; enforce all vehicle regulations in accordance with corporate policy
- Respond to alarms; conduct emergency drills in all areas of the community in accordance with applicable regulations and Life Safety Codes
- Enter all vehicles into the vehicle management system; issue passes to residents, visitors and employees; monitor traffic entering through main entrance; greet visitors and ensure proper sign-in and visitor passes
- Create resident and employee badges and keys; process /Key requests and billing accurately
- Keep Lead Security Officers and Security Department management informed via radio, incident reports, memorandums, shift logs, email, or voicemail; enter data in Parking Management, Incident Reports, Lost & Found systems and generate required reports
- Perform emergency maintenance and housekeeping tasks in the absence of engineering and housekeeping staff
- Maintain a professional attitude when interacting with all customer groups; interact with federal, state, and local agencies in a calm and professional manner
- Monitor CCTV and radio traffic; report suspicious activity to patrol officers on duty
- Dispatch patrol officers to calls for service received at central station, alarms, or events observed on camera
- Ensure all lost and found items are logged and stored correctly
- Process requests for badges, keys, or visitors in a timely manner
- Make public address announcements as required

- Work is outside and inside in all kinds of weather
- Must be able to lift 50 pounds without assistance; 51+ pounds with assistance
- Must be able to walk long distances and climb stairs up to 50% of the workday
- Work is in a confined secure area
- Must be able to identify colors (blue, green, red, etc.)
Skills and Abilities
- Strong customer service and interpersonal skills
- Ability to communicate accurately verbally and in writing
- Ability to make proper decisions during emergency situations
- Desire to work with senior adults
- Ability to multi-task
- Ability to take direction from others
- CPR, First Aid, AED certification required within 6 months of employment
Skills and Abilities
- IAHSS Healthcare Security Officer Certification
- Proficient in Microsoft Office, including Outlook
- Knowledge of alarm systems
- Knowledge of Life Safety Codes
Education and Experience
- Valid Driver’s License in the State of Virginia with a minimum age of 21 to drive for the organization
Education and Experience
- Associate’s degree in criminal justice or related field
- 1 year of experience as a security officer in a hotel, hospital, or health care facility
- Former military, EMT, or police experience preferred
