Campus Security Officer – Germanna Community College, Orange, VA

Schedule:

24‑hour shift coverage, 7 days per week

To assist in supporting the department’s police and security program at all Germanna Community College locations, particularly at the Locust Grove Campus. Provide safety and security to students, faculty, and staff through proactive foot and vehicle patrols, positive community engagement, and modern crime prevention techniques. Enforce campus policies, maintain order, and uphold the image of the college. Position requires shift work and may be assigned to any campus location.

• Patrol campus buildings and grounds; enforce campus safety and security regulations; inspect designated areas on a routine basis.

• Maintain reports, logs, and other documentation as required.

• Provide quality customer service and effective interpersonal communication; practice conflict resolution methods.

• Be available daily for any two of the three shifts at any campus location during the month.

• Perform special assignments, including assisting the agency or state government in emergencies declared by the Governor.

• Considerable working knowledge of statute enforcement; safety and security concepts, principles, procedures and techniques
• Working knowledge of customer service practices and principles
• Demonstrated skills in the use of security vehicles, communication equipment, alarm systems, and other security equipment
• Ability to follow oral and written instructions; meet physical demands; react appropriately in routine and emergency situations
• Effective oral and written communication with a diverse population; ability to gather information, write factual reports, and explain policies and regulations
• Ability to develop and implement security policies and procedures
• Capability to obtain and maintain certification as a campus security officer as mandated by the Virginia Department of Criminal Justice Services
• Previous experience or training in public safety operations
• First Aid, CPR, and AED training certification
• Valid Virginia Driver’s License with a clean driving history
• Knowledge of police/security best practices and OSHA standards

• DCJS Certification as a Campus Security Officer, or knowledge/experience in the security field
• Law enforcement or security experience in a public service community or policing‑oriented organization
• Basic skills in operating personal computers, records management systems, and understanding of NIMS/ICS
• Ability to operate a state vehicle
• Travel between campuses may be required
