Overview
Behavioral Health Security Specialist – Evening shift (2:30 pm to 11:00 pm) at the VA Treatment Center for Children (VTCC). Non‑sworn security position assisting Inpatient Psychiatry Units or VTCC by enforcing VCUHS rules, projecting a positive image, and promoting a safe environment.
Responsibilities- Provide security services to inpatient psychiatry units or VTCC.
- Enforce VCUHS rules and regulations, project a positive image, and promote a safe healthcare environment.
- Engage in proactive violence prevention, provide training, and calm agitated patients to resolve risky situations.
- Evaluate the physical environment and develop patient management strategies.
- Prevent potentially risky and/or violent situations.
- Valid Virginia Driver's License and acceptable driving record (if duties require operating a vehicle).
- Required:
Minimum of three (3) years of security, public safety or law‑offense work experience. - Preferred:
Five (5) years of security, public safety or law‑offense work experience.
- Required:
High School Diploma or equivalent. - Preferred:
Associate’s Degree in Criminal Justice or related field; training or certification in conflict resolution, de‑escalation and/or violence prevention.
Ability to work all shifts, including weekends, holidays and extended hours based on schedule and organizational needs.
Age groups served: as appropriate based on unit assignment.
Physical and Mental Requirements- Lifting 20–50 lbs.
- Prolonged standing, sitting, frequent bending, walking, climbing steps, reaching overhead, repetitive activities.
- Physical intervention in conflict resolution/de‑escalation when needed.
- Strong recall, reasoning, problem solving, hearing, speaking clearly, writing legibly, reading, logical thinking.
- Must handle fast‑pace environment, multiple priorities, frequent intense customer interactions, noisy environment, adapt to frequent change.
