Summary
This is an open-continuous announcement with an established initial cut-off date of 11/02/2025. The position is designated as an Essential Position, meaning it cannot be vacated during war or national emergencies without seriously impairing the mission. Assignments may be performed at any job site within the organization.
Duties & Responsibilities- Perform law enforcement and crime prevention duties to maintain law and order during normal and emergency operations, protecting the life, property, and civil rights of individuals.
- Patrol DLA installations and property, prevent crime, enforce local regulations and laws, and conduct initial investigations of suspicious activities, security breaches, and crimes.
- Advise suspects of their Miranda rights prior to questioning, write incident and activity reports, detain suspects, secure and process crime scenes, and conduct preliminary investigations.
- Act as first responder to emergencies or volatile situations such as terrorist attacks, hostage situations, bomb threats, vehicle accidents, robberies, hazardous material incidents, and other emergencies.
- Operate fixed posts located within DLA installations or at perimeter gates and control access to sensitive/restricted areas where there may be a breach of security, public safety, or public health.
- Inspect outgoing personnel, packages, and vehicles at gates and checkpoints to detect, detain, or cite possible property theft.
- Provide specialized pedestrian and traffic control services for ceremonies, parades, emergencies, and similar events.
- Perform traffic duties including directing traffic, issuing tickets or notices for vehicle operation, and handling parking violations.
- Coordinate emergency responses between security, fire, and other emergency units, and react to calls concerning violations or complaints, including 911/100 emergency calls.

Physical fitness testing required at specified DLA sites (New Cumberland, PA; Richmond, VA; Ft Belvoir, VA; Columbus, OH; Tracy, CA). Travel is the candidate’s expense. - Valid state driver’s license.
- This is a Mission Essential position; the incumbent may be required to report to work during natural disasters, inclement weather, or crises.
To qualify as a Police Officer, your resume and supporting documentation must support:
- One year of specialized experience directly related to this position, meeting GS‑05 equivalency for a GS‑06 level.
- Experience and knowledge of basic laws and regulations, law enforcement operations, and maintaining order.
- Basic investigative methods and techniques to investigate violations or probable incidents.
Experience may be paid, unpaid, or volunteer work through programs such as Peace Corps, Ameri Corps, and other community organizations. All qualifying experience, including volunteer work, will receive credit.
TrainingThe DLA Police program provides consistent, high‑quality training. Officers receive training through the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center (FLETC) in Glynco, GA, and the Army Civilian Police Academy at Fort Leonard Wood, MO. Recruit officers begin training immediately with full pay and benefits.
