Heavy Equipment Shop Mechanic – Richmond
Major Role and
Purpose:
The primary responsibilities of this position are to diagnose and repair heavy highway, trucks, grading, and asphalt equipment and maintenance issues.
- Ensure a safe work environment in compliance with all safety policies and procedures using the appropriate tools and equipment for the task.
- Perform repairs and overhaul of the various highway, grading and asphalt equipment, pumps, air compressor, transmissions, controls, and accessories, etc.
- Test equipment following repair or assembly to ensure proper performance and compliance with operating specifications.
- Perform repairs and preventive maintenance practices necessary to increase the service life of the equipment.
- Prepare required documentation including work orders and parts lists in an accurate and timely manner.
- Notify the Shop Foreman when problems arise.
- Perform all other duties deemed necessary or assigned.
- High School Diploma / GED.
- Minimum 5 years of experience with heavy equipment preferred.
- Effective communication and organization skills.
- Diagnose and repair heavy grading and paving equipment.
- Experienced with diesel engines, hydraulic components, and electrical systems.
- Able to perform repairs in accordance with OSHA safety regulations.
- Virginia State Inspection license desirable but not required.
- Must have a valid Driver's License in good standing.
- Mechanical aptitude.
- Job requires the following motions: climbing, bending, squatting, pushing, pulling, vibrating, and reaching.
- Requires lifting up to 50lbs.
- Overtime work is required.
- Potential exposure to extremes of hot or cold weather.
