Utility Mechanic
Join a dedicated team as a Gas & Water Technician, playing a crucial role in maintaining and ensuring the safety of public utility systems. This hands-on, field-based position requires a proactive approach to keep water and gas systems running smoothly and responding swiftly to emergencies.
Responsibilities- Respond to emergencies by investigating gas or water leaks, addressing fire department calls, including carbon monoxide alarms, and managing urgent situations to shut off or turn on gas/water.
- Assist in repairing pipelines and perform routine maintenance on both gas and water meters. Troubleshoot and fix automated meter reading equipment (AMR).
- Conduct manual meter readings as necessary, audit readings to ensure accurate billing, and verify address and customer information.
- Engage with residents to educate them on the safe operation of gas appliances and communicate any findings or safety concerns.
- Operate equipment such as work trucks, backhoes, dump trucks, and gas detection tools to efficiently manage tasks.
- Proficiency in using hand tools and performing maintenance repairs.
- Experience in plumbing, mechanical troubleshooting, and facilities maintenance.
- Ability to perform data entry using computers or tablets.
Skills & Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- 1-2 years of experience in gas/water pipelines, plumbing, or a related field.
This role involves working outdoors and in the field, ensuring the proper functioning and safety of gas and water systems.
Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract to Hire position based out of Richmond, VA.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $21.77 - $36.28/hr.
