Job Summary
Rappahannock Community College is seeking a Building & Grounds Technician for the Warsaw campus. This part‑time (29 hrs/week) position involves maintaining college equipment, facilities, and grounds, including mowing, fertilizing, and operating heavy machinery.
Responsibilities- Perform grounds maintenance: mowing, fertilizing, watering, pruning, planting, mulching, edging.
- Maintain grounds equipment and hand‑tools.
- Conduct routine and preventive maintenance on heavy machinery (walk‑behind mowers, zero‑turn mowers, riding mowers, tractors, forklifts, golf carts, boom lifts).
- Support physical plan upkeep (plant shop, college spaces, storage areas).
- Assist with logistics: supply pick‑up, deliveries, moving heavy materials, furniture, and refuse.
- Assist with plumbing, electrical, carpentry, painting, and masonry maintenance.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Knowledge of best practice landscaping techniques.
- Working knowledge of maintenance hand‑tools, machinery, power tools, and equipment.
- Experience with routine maintenance on heavy grounds machinery and hand tools.
- Prior work experience and training in grounds maintenance.
- Flexibility and adaptability.
- Effective interpersonal skills.
- Ability to learn new skills and techniques.
- Ability to follow safety procedures.
- Current Virginia driver’s license with an insurable record.
- Ability to acquire and maintain applicable licenses.
- Experience working with computers.
