If this is you, then working in the Instrumentation Maintenance Branch of Fairfax County’s Wastewater Management at the Noman M. Cole Jr Pollution Control Plant in Lorton, Va could be a good fit.
Responsibilities- Assist in preventive maintenance & repairs of instrumentation and electronic equipment such as flow, level, and analytical measuring devices (doppler, transit time, magnetic, differential pressure, ultrasonic level meters, pressure level meters, PH analyzers, dissolved oxygen analyzers, ORP analyzers, turbidity analyzers, oxygen analyzers, total hydrocarbon analyzers).
- Read technical manuals or drawings and complete repairs accordingly.
- Work independently on less technical instrumentation covering repairs, troubleshooting, and preventive maintenance.
- Document completed work in a computer-based work order system and order spare parts as needed.
- Assist in maintaining the continuous emission monitoring system on incinerator stacks.
- Assist in calibration and repair of sensor and alarm systems for oxygen, hydrogen sulfide, explosive gas (methane), and fire detection.
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED and completion of a vocation course in electronics; or one year of work experience related to the installation, maintenance and repair of industrial instrumentation or electronic/electrical equipment found in water or wastewater utilities.
- Valid driver's license.
- Confined Space Certification within 6 months of hire.
Necessary Special Requirements
- Criminal background check, pre‑employment physical examination, and driving record check.
- Ability to work emergency overtime during inclement weather or emergencies.
- Ability to distinguish different color wiring.
- Ability to distinguish colors and lift up to 50 lbs.
Preferred Qualifications
- Coursework in instrumentation / electrical / electronic technology or related field.
- Electrical Journeyman license or ISA certificate.
- Experience working in an industrial wastewater environment.
- One year of experience troubleshooting and repairing electrical & instrumentation control systems.
- One year experience in water treatment or pump station maintenance.
- Experience reading instrumentation data, interpreting schematics, circuit diagrams, and manuals.
- Ability to distinguish colors and drive 1/2, 3/4, & 1-ton utility trucks.
- Operate hoisting equipment, lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
- Use keyboard‑driven equipment and computers.
- Work in adverse weather conditions and temperatures.
- Frequent exposure to loud noises and rare airborne substances.
- Climb, crouch, bend and work in confined areas with confined‑space entry restrictions.
