Facilities Door Technician – VCU Health – 1st Shift

Salary: $22 to $26 per hour

Job Summary

Install, inspect, service, and repair swing doors and automatic door mechanisms in accordance with manufacturer, state/local, and federal codes and guidelines. The position is scheduled for 7:00 am–3:30 pm, Monday–Friday.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Inspect, install, and repair rated door assemblies.
  • Adjust doors to ensure proper opening and closing effort.
  • Make simple adjustments to electric openers.
  • Test mechanical equipment to verify functionality.
  • Order materials, supplies, or equipment as needed.
  • Repair or replace worn, damaged, or defective mechanical parts.
  • Install hardware or interior/exterior fixtures.
  • Assemble structural components.
  • Position equipment using hand tools, power tools, or heavy equipment.
  • Move large objects with heavy equipment.
  • Remove parts or components from equipment.
  • Run wiring to connect equipment.
  • Interpret blueprints, specifications, or diagrams to guide installation, development, or operation.
  • Assemble electrical components, subsystems, or equipment.
  • Maintain logs, perform rounds, and complete maintenance work orders, tests, and inspections.
Qualifications
  • 3–5 years of related experience as a door technician.
  • Fire door installation/repair certification preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to follow up on maintenance tasks.
  • Driver's license and clean driving record required.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Experience with computerized work order systems preferred.
