General Information About The Job- Lays building materials, including concrete and brick, and constructs or repairs masonry surfaces or structures.
- Prepares surfaces prior to beginning work
- Lays blocks or bricks following blueprints, plans, or drawings
- Lays out work using chalk lines, plumb bobs, tapes, squares, and levels
- Mixes cement using hoes, cement-mixing equipment, and/or hand tools
- Has knowledge and ability to use brick ruler
- Cuts or breaks bricks and concrete using hammers, powered abrasive saws, paving breakers, drills, and/or hand tools
- Molds expansion joints and edges using edging tools, joints, and straightedge
- Performs finish masonry work, installs mixes mortar
- Erects staging or scaffolding if the job requires
- Screens sand, mixing it with cement and water to obtain consistency necessary
- Installs all work plumb and level
- Smooths mortar and removes excess material with trowel
- Dependable, reliable, fulfills responsibilities.
- Physical activity using hands and arms in handling, installing, positioning, and moving materials, and manipulating things.
- Able to wear common protective or safety equipment such as safety shoes, glasses, gloves, hearing protection, breathing and hard hats when needed.
- Working in various weather conditions
- Minimum ofthree years’ experience of masonry restoration
- Must have own basic masonry tools.
- Must be able to travel to job site locations.
- Must be able to climb and maintain balance on scaffolds and ladders, lift and carry objects weighing up-to 80 pounds.
- Experience working on historic properties is a must.
