The primary responsibility of the Welding Mechanic Intern is to assist with laying out, fabricating, assembling, welding piping systems, fixtures, and equipment used in steam, hot water, heating, cooling, lubricating, and industrial processing systems. This role provides hands‑on learning opportunities while supporting experienced mechanics in the field. The intern will work under the guidance of a Trade Supervisor and senior team members to develop technical skills and industry knowledge.

What you will do:
  • Assist with selecting pipe types, sizes, and materials based on job specifications
  • Support cutting, threading, and preparing pipe using appropriate tools under supervision
  • Help assemble and install metal and nonmetal piping systems and fittings
  • Assist with joining piping using methods such as welding, threading, soldering, or brazing
  • Observe and support welding activities while developing skills in various techniques
  • Work alongside experienced team members to learn proper equipment use and welding methods
  • Perform material handling, job site organization, and other duties as assigned
You should have:
  • Demonstrate knowledge of basic math skills (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and fractions)
  • Ability to work within precise limits or standards of accuracy and evaluate information using measurable standards
  • Ability to work easily and skillfully with hands
  • Ability to repeat tasks of short duration according to a set procedure
  • Ability to maintain a positive attitude and be willing to work in a team environment
  • Ability to communicate and deal effectively with team leader and teammates
