Lead Restoration Technician
The Lead Restoration Technician will lead and perform disaster restoration and water damage mitigation projects from initial response through final quality control. This role requires strong technical knowledge of mitigation techniques, IICRC-certified skills, leadership to direct crews on-site, clear communication with customers and insurance partners, and meticulous documentation to ensure projects are completed safely, on schedule, and to company standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead on-site restoration crews during emergency and scheduled mitigation projects, providing direction, training, and oversight.
- Perform water extraction, structural drying, moisture mapping, containment, deodorization, and other mitigation tasks using industry-standard equipment and techniques.
- Develop and execute mitigation plans based on damage assessment and IICRC best practices; prioritize actions to reduce secondary damage and costs.
- Document job progress thoroughly with photos, moisture readings, equipment logs, and written reports for internal records and insurance submissions.
- Coordinate with customers, insurance adjusters, and project managers to communicate scope of work, timelines, and any scope changes.
- Conduct quality control inspections and ensure all work meets safety, regulatory, and company standards before project closeout.
- Maintain and troubleshoot tools and equipment, manage jobsite inventory, and ensure proper cleaning, storage, and maintenance of gear.
- Respond to emergency calls and support 24/7 on-call rotation as required.
- Prepare preliminary estimates and work scopes; use Xactimate for estimating when available (preferred).
Qualifications
- IICRC certification(s) required (examples: WRT, ASD, or equivalent) with proven application in the field.
- Minimum 3-5 years of restoration experience with demonstrated expertise in disaster restoration and water damage mitigation; prior lead or supervisory experience preferred.
- Hands-on proficiency with mitigation and drying equipment (pumps, extractors, dehumidifiers, air movers, moisture meters).
- Strong documentation skills, including accurate moisture mapping, photo documentation, and report writing for insurance purposes.
- Excellent communication and customer service skills; ability to liaise with homeowners, property managers, and insurance adjusters.
- Valid drivers license and reliable transportation; able to travel to job sites and respond to emergency calls.
- Physical ability to perform manual labor in varied conditions (lifting, climbing, working in confined spaces, prolonged standing).
- Familiarity with safety standards and procedures (OSHA) and ability to maintain a safe jobsite.
- Fire damage mitigation experience preferred.
- Xactimate estimating experience preferred.
- Willingness to train and mentor team members and maintain continuing education in industry standards.
