Job Duties

The DGS Bureau of Facilities & Maintenance (BFM) within the Division of Capital Square Services (DCSS) is looking to hire skilled Trades Professionals in various building specialties, including electrical, HVAC, and plumbing. BFM is a customer-focused organization that provides high quality, cost effective and timely services for the roughly 75 state and legislative agencies located within the Capitol Square complex. We operate and maintain approximately 6.45 million square feet of space at the Capitol Complex and throughout the metropolitan Richmond area, including office buildings, the State Capitol, the Governor's Mansion and monuments.

As Trades Professionals, these positions are responsible for independently providing a variety of maintenance services to their assigned buildings. We are looking for customer-oriented, adaptive trades professionals who will take pride in maintaining DGS properties and ensuring our tenants and visitors enjoy a clean, safe, efficient, comfortable environment. Job duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Triage and respond to a wide variety of services calls and general maintenance requests in their specific trade(s) (ex: electrical, mechanical, plumbing, fire systems, HVAC).
  • Inspect operating equipment and maintain written logs regarding preventative maintenance.
  • Assist other building team members with repair and maintenance services involving other trades.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Valid Virginia Driver's License
  • Considerable experience and skill with at least one building trade (Electrical, HVAC, Plumbing)
  • Journey level knowledge of the principles, methods, and building codes associated with the installation, repair, maintenance, and operation of building systems relevant to one or more trades.
  • Ability to troubleshoot, test, diagnose, and repair a wide variety of structural and mechanical equipment related to plumbing, electrical, and/or HVAC.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, diagrams, drawings, specifications, and operating manuals.
  • Ability to use computers to monitor emails, review and maintain work orders, and complete online training modules.
  • Strong communication skills, including the ability to communicate with a variety of people. Ability to follow written and oral instructions.
  • Ability to routinely lift, push, or pull 25 pounds and occasionally lift, push, or pull up to 50 pounds.

Additional Considerations

  • Licensed as a Journey or Master level Trades professional in one or more specialties.
  • Professional certifications relevant to one or more trades (ex: backflow certification)
  • Completion of a vocational training program related to one or more trades.
  • Experience with computer-based work order management systems.
  • Experience using building automation systems.
  • Experience working on governmental or historical buildings.
  • Experience and skill in multiple building trades.
