Summary / Objective

The Industrial blaster/painter will be responsible for manually blasting steel and pipe inside an industrial blast booth and operating standard blast pots, equipment, and other structural sub components. Painting responsibilities include surface preparation using brushes, rollers, and conventional spray pots to achieve specifications given by supervisor or job requirements.

Essential Functions
  • Uses high air-pressure sandblasting equipment, chemical application, power tools and other abrasive means to remove rust, grease, dirt, concrete, and old paint prior to painting sub-structure
  • Prepares surfaces and applies primer to pipe or steel sub-structure structures and equipment for primer/finish coats
  • Prepares and sands rough spots to ensure that finishes will adhere properly
  • Works within precise limits or standards of accuracy
  • Makes decisions based on knowledge of trade and supervisor information/instructions
  • Performs other duties as assigned
Supervisory Responsibility

Required
  • Minimum of 6 months' work experience and/or up to 3 years of industrial painting/blasting experience and/or equivalent combination of vocational training and experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience (preferably in a construction environment)
  • Must be able to multi-task, work with minimal supervision, follow written and oral instructions, show attention to detail and demonstrate problem-solving skills
  • Must adhere to all company policy and procedures
  • Must be available, and have the means to report to multiple job sites as assigned
Work Environment
  • May work in varying temperatures; both inside and outside, including inclement weather, heat, humidity, cold and dampness
  • May be required to use hearing protection in and around areas with moderate/high exposure to high noise levels
  • May be required to use respiratory protection when working in areas with fumes, or airborne particles including dust
  • May be required to work in confined spaces or at heights
Physical Demands
  • This role routinely uses construction equipment such as heavy machinery, hand and power tools
  • While performing duties of the job the employee may work aloft, climb, bend, pull, reach overhead, stand/walk for long periods of time and lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Frequently required to use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools or controls; and reach with hands and arms
  • Must be able to correctly identify all colors of a color-coded cable/wires and see close vision, distance vision, depth perception, peripheral vision and ability to adjust focus
Travel
  • May require travel (typically not overnight)
Preferred
  • Prior military experience
  • HS diploma or GED equivalent
