Lead Yard Operators will support active projects by managing daily yard operations, handling and staging materials and equipment, transporting materials and tools using company trucks, and assisting project teams including Project Superintendents, Superintendents, Assistant Superintendents, Project Managers, Project Engineers, and Field Personnel to deliver successful projects in the safest manner possible, on time and on budget with the desired level of quality.

The Lead Yard Operator roles and responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following.

Work Tasks & Capabilities Yard Operations & Material Handling
  • Operate forklifts, loaders, skid steers, and other yard equipment as required.
  • Load and unload materials, tools, and equipment safely and efficiently.
  • Stage materials, tools, and equipment by project, phase, and priority.
  • Inspect incoming and outgoing materials, tools, and equipment for accuracy and condition.
  • Secure materials and equipment for storage and transport.
  • Maintain clean and organized yard, storage, and staging areas.
Transportation & Truck Operations
  • Transport materials, tools, and small equipment between the yard and jobsites using company trucks.
  • Verify loads, delivery locations, routes, and schedules prior to transport.
  • Ensure materials, tools, and equipment are properly loaded, secured, and delivered to the correct location.
  • Assist with project mobilizations and demobilizations.
  • Maintain cleanliness and basic upkeep of assigned vehicles.
Coordination & Oversight
  • Coordinate daily yard and material activities with the Project Superintendent and/or Project Manager.
  • Direct assigned labor support as required to meet project needs.
  • Support jobsite material flow to prevent delays, rehandling, or misdelivery.
  • Follow simple verbal and written instructions as directed by project leadership.
Tool & Asset Accountability
  • Manage and maintain accountability for company-owned tools and small equipment.
  • Track tool issuance, return, and condition by project or crew as required.
  • Identify missing, damaged, or non-returned tools and report to project leadership.
  • Properly store and secure tools and equipment when not in use.
Material, Equipment & Asset Management
  • Manage materials, tools, and equipment in the most efficient way possible.
  • Communicate material and tool needs, inventory, and usage with project leadership to ensure proper resources are available to complete assigned tasks.
  • Ensure daily inspection forms are completed for assigned vehicles and equipment.
  • Maintain cleanliness and basic upkeep of company trucks and yard equipment.
  • Coordinate tool, vehicle, or equipment repair and maintenance needs with project leadership.
  • Maintain accurate materials received logs and tracking systems; ensure all records are kept up to date and properly submitted to project leadership as required.
General &

Physical Requirements
  • May be required to perform minor labor tasks other than operating equipment or driving.
  • Tasks may include offloading material, tool handling, general cleanup, staging, and yard organization.
  • Must be able to work outdoors in wet, muddy, cold, hot, and humid weather.
  • Must be able to reach, lift, and perform work above shoulder height and work on or around uneven surfaces.
  • Promptly report any incidents involving damage to MEB equipment, tools, or vehicles to project leadership.
