Reentry Support Specialist Loudoun (24 hours pre-release & 16 hours post-release) $47K to $53K

DescriptionPurpose:
To compassionately engage and coach clients towards successful reentry using a risk based case planning model.
Job Summary:
The Reentry Support Specialist (RSS) specializes in transitional support for justice involved individuals and their families. The RSS will provide risk based case management services to clients and make appropriate referrals for other client needs. The RSS is responsible for documenting all client services provided. As required, the RSS will organize and facilitate classes, groups, and special programs.
- Perform intakes, criminogenic risk assessments, and case management services with clients in the staff member's assigned service areas (Fairfax County, Prince William County, Loudoun County, or Loudoun Adult Detention Center)
- Provide risk-based case management services to include assisting clients with obtaining identification, employment applications, resume and cover letter development, interview preparation, job search and retention skills, and budgeting and financial planning
- Respond to general inquiries and assist in resolving client crises, as necessary
- Coordinate walk-in services at the OAR front desk with volunteers
- Make client referrals for service to community based organizations
- Ability to build and maintain community partnerships
- Ability to work independently in a mobile environment
- Assist in coordinating donations from local community partners
- Attend organizational and community based meetings as required to ensure appropriate service delivery
- Facilitate pre or post release classes as needed.
- Provide direct assistance to clients for employment-related needs.
- Follow up with client on their employment status and communicate the availability of case management services and track outcomes
- Create and manage client files according to agency policy and procedure
- Document all services provided
- Obtain, track and disseminate resources, and incentives such as transportation assistance, gift cards, and personal care items
- Respond to inmate correspondence
- Assist with informational forums within the community and community partners
- Identify best practices to ensure effective service delivery
- Assist in the training and orientation of Reintegration Program staff, volunteers, and interns as requested
- Other duties assigned
- Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in human services, criminal justice or related field is required or equivalent education and experience in social service delivery
- Experience providing case management services
- Knowledge of and experience with community and government resources and the criminal justice system is required
- Must be able to communicate well (written and verbal) with diverse populations
- Must be able to manage multiple priorities
- Must be able to work effectively with people in crisis and resistant populations within defined boundaries
- Working knowledge of computers is required in order to maintain database records and perform routine tasks
- Bilingual fluency in English and Spanish are a plus

OAR of Fairfax County is a community-based non-profit with 43 years of experience providing continuum of pre-release and post-incarceration services for justice involved individuals and their families in Fairfax County. To accomplish its mission OAR's develops, promotes, and operates cost-effective programs to restore criminal offenders to productive roles in the community, offer options to prosecution and/or incarceration, and support families.
In addition, active citizen involvement in the restorative process is promoted through the extensive use of trained volunteers who assist in service delivery.
OAR's history has its roots in the highest principles of human rights, and the most practical applications of a community's enlightened self-interest and citizen action. Its origins can be traced to a 1968 prison strike at the Sate Penitentiary in Richmond, Virginia. In response, several local churches convened a conference on Churches and the Correctional System. Following that effort, Jay Worrall, Jr.
founded the OAR movement, which at the time stood for Offender Aid and Restoration. It was his vision of citizen visitors helping jail inmates that formed the original premise for the creation of OAR organizations around the country.
