Job Duties

The Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services’ (DBHDS) Office of Addiction Recovery and Wellness Supports (OARWS) is seeking an accomplished professional to represent DBHDS OARWS in state and local settings to develop and support comprehensive, Behavioral Health Wellness initiatives specifically to prevent substance misuse/abuse and promote mental health and wellness across the lifespan and continuum of care.

This position will be responsible for subject matter expertise as it relates to Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) which includes:

  • Developing and implementing strategies to increase awareness and understanding of ACEs and trauma-informed care.
  • Coordinating ACEs trainings for professionals, organizations, and community stakeholders.
  • Collaborating with local agencies, healthcare providers, and educational institutions to integrate ACEs-informed approaches.
  • Collecting and analyzing data to monitor program effectiveness and identify areas for improvement.
  • Advocating for policies and practices that support prevention and mitigation of ACEs.
  • Serving as a resource for technical assistance and guidance on ACE and trauma-informed systems.
  • Integrating trauma informed approaches across the continuum of care for substance use and mental health services, ensuring prevention, treatment, and recovery programs are responsive to the needs of individuals with histories of childhood adversity.
Responsibilities

Additionally, this position is responsible for monitoring some of the SAMHSA Substance Abuse Prevention, Treatment, and Recovery (SUPTR) Block grant grantees which include:

  • Providing technical assistance on services and programs.
  • Conducting annual site visits/reviews of prevention activities.
  • Responding to calls and emails requesting information, direction, and guidance.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Knowledge of prevention and practice models (i.e. Strategic Prevention Framework, Institute of Medicine, Public Health model, Resiliency model).
  • Knowledge of Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs), including the incidence and prevalence of ACEs, best practices in ACEs prevention and resiliency from interagency, federal, state, and community perspectives.
  • Experience in prevention services development, delivery and implementation.
  • Experience in management and monitoring of prevention services
  • Experience in data-driven decision making.
  • Experience with interagency and state/community collaboration.
  • Ability to work with stakeholders such as state and local agencies, consumer groups, universities and other organizations.
  • Knowledge of and experience with policy development and other agency mandates and programs at the state and/or local levels.
  • Ability to deliver consultation and technical assistance related to prevention services development, delivery and management.
  • Facilitation and presentation skills for working with diverse agency and constituent groups.
  • Familiarity with budget and/or contract development and management.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to use word processing, PowerPoint, and spreadsheet software.
