Salary: $66,192 to $123,150 per year
General DescriptionProvide specialized social work services to students and families to support social‑emotional development and academic progress. Provide counseling, referrals, assessment, and consultative services to students experiencing social, emotional, and behavioral challenges that interfere with school success.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Assist families in connecting with community support resources.
- Support student social‑emotional learning and development.
- Serve as designated Attendance Officer.
- Assess home and neighborhood environments to determine eligibility for special education services or other supports.
- Share findings with eligibility committees and participate in School‑Based Intervention Team meetings.
- Conduct interviews to obtain social history and prepare assessment reports.
- Attend and participate in Child Study and other team meetings, and investigate issues from School Referral Forms.
- Conduct home visits when required during assessments and investigations.
- Review student records, maintain copies of all reports, and submit monthly activity and travel reports.
- Serve on school crisis team and liaise with outside agencies such as the social services bureau, juvenile probation, juvenile detention, and the juvenile court.
- Counsel students and parents regarding living and learning environments and support specialized needs.
- Assist students in gaining vocational experiences.
- Perform other related tasks as required.
- Pupil Personnel Services License with a school social work endorsement and completion of a two‑year Master’s Degree from an accredited school of social work.
- A minimum of one year of successful experience as a school social worker is preferred.
- Bilingual – fluency in Spanish is preferred but not required.
- Excellent communication, organizational, public relations, and presentation skills.
- Demonstrated willingness to work with diverse students, parents, and communities.
- Effective communication with students, parents, teachers, and administrators.
- Collaborative approach with administrators, teachers, parents, and other professionals regarding student problems and change strategies.
- Ability to establish networks with school programs, community agencies, and resources for families.
- Experience working with students who have had a history of academic, attendance, and behavioral challenges.
- Valid Virginia driver’s license and willingness to use personal automobile.
