Affirm is reinventing credit to make it more honest and friendly, giving consumers the flexibility to buy now and pay later without any hidden fees or compounding interest. The Credit Decisioning team provides scalable underwriting decisions for integrated point‑of‑sale (POS) merchants and wallet platforms across the US, Canada, and the UK. This role is within the Credit Expansion sub‑team, which focuses on responsibly increasing access to credit while ensuring consistent decision‑making for our users.
A key part of the work involves developing new underwriting features and products to support entry into new markets and partnerships. You will work closely with cross‑functional partners in Engineering, Risk, Analytics, Product, and Capital to launch initiatives with significant business impact.
- Break down larger projects into individual tasks, deliver them in multiple phases, and collaborate with others to ensure timely delivery.
- Support peers and stakeholders in the product development lifecycle by collaborating with product management, design & analytics, articulating technical constraints, and partnering on decisions that consider risks and trade‑offs.
- Support the operations and availability of the team’s artifacts by creating and monitoring metrics, escalating when needed, and supporting “keep the lights on” & on‑call efforts.
- Contribute to a sense of community by engaging in growth and development activities such as participation in the interview process.
- 1.5+ years of experience as a software engineer.
- Experience designing, developing and launching backend systems; proficiency in Python or Kotlin.
- Familiarity with distributed systems building blocks and technologies such as AWS, MySQL, and Kubernetes.
- Ability to transform a simple problem or business scenario into a solution that interacts with multiple components, writing clear, well‑tested, extensible code.
- Comfort navigating a large code base, debugging others’ code, and providing feedback through code reviews.
- Proactive ownership of growth, seeking feedback from team, manager, and stakeholders.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills supporting collaboration with a global engineering team.
- Either equivalent practical experience or a Bachelor’s degree in a related field.

CompensationEmployees new to affirm typically come in at the start of the pay range. affirm focuses on providing a simple and transparent pay structure which is based on a variety of factors, including location, experience and job-related skills. Base pay is part of a total compensation package that may include equity rewards, monthly stipends for health, wellness and tech spending, and benefits.
USA base pay range (CA, WA, NY, NJ, CT): $160,000 - $210,000 per year. USA base pay range (all other U.S. states): $142,000 - $192,000 per year.
