Role OverviewAs a delivery driver, you are the last mile of our commitment to customers. Your timely arrival, accurate load handling, and professional conduct directly impact project success.
Shift & HoursMonday – Friday, 4:00am – 1:00pm.
CompensationStarting rate: $30.00–$35.00 per hour, depending on experience.
Key Outcomes- Operate tractor–trailer and box/flatbed trucks on assigned routes throughout the Richmond service area.
- Deliver electrical materials accurately and on time to job sites, contractor yards, and customer locations.
- Confirm delivery accuracy before departure and document any discrepancies immediately.
- Communicate proactively with dispatch and branch operations if a delivery is at risk of delay.
- Complete thorough pre‑trip and post‑trip inspections every shift.
- Operate equipment safely and in full compliance with DOT regulations and Shepherd safety standards.
- Report mechanical issues, equipment needs, or safety concerns to leadership without delay.
- Assist with loading and unloading, including wrapping pallets and staging outbound freight.
- Support warehouse operations during non‑driving time, including picking and packing customer orders when required.
- Represent Shepherd professionally at every delivery; communicate clearly and courteously with job‑site personnel and contractors.
- Flag any customer feedback, complaints, or concerns to your Manager on the same day.
- Return vehicle in the condition it left — fueled, clean, and ready for the next run.
- Routes run on time and deliveries are complete and correct.
- Pre‑trip and post‑trip inspections completed every shift without prompting.
- Discrepancies documented and communicated the day they occur.
- Customers report professional, reliable interactions.
- Warehouse team trusts the loads staged or packed are correct.
- Safety‑first mindset, performing every pre‑trip inspection and run with care.
- Proactive communicator who raises issues early.
- Professional representation of Shepherd at every stop.
- Reliable, showing up ready and ready to execute.
- Team player who works with the warehouse to ensure correct loads.
- Understanding that missed deliveries or sloppy loads break customer promises.
- Valid CDL Class A license.
- Current DOT and Medical Certification cards.
- Minimum 3years of driving experience with a clean motor‑vehicle record.
- Ability to operate a tractor‑trailer with manual transmission and knowledge of air‑brake systems.
- Ability to lift up to 80lb regularly and perform the physical requirements of the role.
- High school diploma or equivalent (preferred).
- Forklift certification preferred, or ability to obtain through onsite training.
- Availability for schedule adjustments as business needs require.
- Pass pre‑employment background check and drug screening.
- Strong verbal communication skills.
- Familiarity with Richmond‑area delivery routes (preferred).
