Safety Trainer for Delivery Drivers
Ground Logistics is a last-mile package delivery contractor with Fed Ex - built on a relentless commitment to safety and customer service.
Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced, hands-on Safety Trainer for our team of delivery drivers. The Safety Trainer is responsible for delivering and evaluating safety training that promotes a safe and compliant work environment. This position ensures employees understand company safety policies, regulatory requirements, accident prevention practices, hazard recognition, and safe work procedures. The Safety Trainer works closely with management and employees to improve safety performance, reduce incidents, and strengthen the organization's safety culture while optimizing productivity.
This position is ideal for a safety professional with a strong background in commercial motor vehicle (CMV) operations who thrives on building programs from the ground up, coaching drivers, and using data to drive measurable results.
Key Responsibilities
Safety Program Management
Delivers weekly safety training topics for employees.
- Lead defensive driving and safe-driving training for new and current drivers, including pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspection coaching.
- Provide progressive, hands-on coaching for drivers using in-vehicle event data (VEDR) to reinforce safe habits and correct risky ones early.
- Ride along and observe drivers in the field, giving real-time, constructive feedback.
- Conduct new employee safety orientations.
- Delivers weekly safety trainings for all drivers.
- Train delivery employees on proper lifting, carrying, and material-handling techniques to prevent strains, sprains, and other injuries.
- Evaluate employee competency through testing, observations, and practical demonstrations.
- Assist in accident and incident investigations.
- Conduct workplace safety inspections.
- Promote daily safety awareness through one-on-one meetings along with group toolbox talks.
Required
- Minimum 3-5 years of safety management experience in a trucking, last-mile delivery, or commercial transportation environment.
- Working knowledge of FMCSA regulations, DOT compliance, and Hours of Service rules.
- Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
- Knowledge of OSHA regulations and workplace safety standards.
- Basic knowledge of traffic laws/accident investigation processes.
- Strong presentation and public speaking skills.
- Excellent communication and coaching abilities.
- Ability to conduct field observations and safety assessments.
- Ability to influence employee behavior and promote a positive safety culture.
We offer a competitive compensation package benchmarked to current market rates for Fleet Safety Managers in the Mid-Atlantic region.
- Base Salary: $72,800 per year
