Job Title
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Monitors school bus activities within a designated area
Observes vehicle operations; completes spot checks of buses for proper safety equipment and cleanliness; checks vehicle and operators' credentials
Identifies bus routes where problems may appear and contacts routing personnel for necessary corrections
Observe situations affecting traffic conditions such as traffic direction changes, construction work, parking situations, emergencies, etc.
Advises transportation office personnel at respective operating locations of traffic conditions Assists bus operators in the event of vehicle breakdown, student misbehavior, or equipment malfunctions on the street
Confers with school administrators, staff, and garage personnel
Advises the Director of Pupil Transportation or designated representative on matters relating to the overall performance of the school bus fleet
Investigate accidents and complaints from parents, school district administrators, and the general public in regard to transportation services
Acts as a troubleshooter to expedite service and maximize safety for assigned school buses
Assists with timely and correct entry of bus operator and bus monitor time cards
Assists with assigning bus operators and bus monitors to bus routes
Provides support to the Transportation Supervisor in monitoring and enforcing the provisions of the disciplinary program as specified in the Transportation Policy and Procedures Manual
Primary Point of contact after office hours, evenings and weekends.
Responsible for securing both bus compounds once all buses have arrived.
Performs other related duties as assigned
Qualifications:
High school diploma or its equivalency required
Possession of a valid Class B Virginia Commercial Driver's License with S and P endorsements, or ability to obtain such a license within 90 days of employment required
Extensive knowledge and experience in the safety and efficient operation of a school bus fleet Considerable knowledge of the State motor vehicle code as it applies to school buses and of safety precautions and measures appropriate for the loading, conveyance, and unloading of school bus passengers
Outstanding interpersonal and teamwork skills; ability to work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders
Strong organizational skills, including keen attention to detail and ease at managing competing demands and determining priorities independently
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Bilingual/proficiency in Spanish preferred
