Position: Operations Support Day Driver

Tran South Logistics specializes in trucking, deliveries, and warehousing. Our distribution centers are located throughout South Carolina, North Carolina, Virginia, Alabama, Tennessee, Georgia, and Florida. CDL-A Driver - Operations Support Richmond, VA Tran South Logistics is seeking a dependable, organized, and self-motivated Class A CDL Driver for our Richmond, VA distribution center. This position is primarily a driving role with additional operations support responsibilities that help ensure the daily success of our transportation and warehouse operations.

The ideal candidate is flexible, self-motivated, takes initiative, and willingly adapts to changing daily operational needs. Daily responsibilities may include covering local delivery routes, transfer runs, equipment support, and supporting daily transportation and warehouse operations. This position is best suited for someone who enjoys contributing to the overall success of the operation rather than simply completing assigned routes. Candidates must have a clean driving record, be detail-oriented, and possess at least 2 years of verifiable tractor-trailer experience.

Job Duties And Responsibilities
  • Safely operate a Class A tractor-trailer while complying with DOT regulations and company safety policies.
  • Provide coverage for local delivery routes and transfer runs as operational needs require, including scheduled driver absences, the Virginia Beach (NFK) transfer, GBO transfer, and local backhaul pickups.
  • Transport company tractors, trailers, and company vehicles to local vendors for repairs, inspections, fueling, and scheduled maintenance.
  • Perform thorough pre-trip and post-trip inspections and conduct routine yard inspections to identify tractors and trailers requiring repair, maintenance, or inspection.
  • Assist with routing, scheduling, delivery documentation, and other transportation support functions using company software.
  • Provide warehouse operational support, including printing customer orders, delivery paperwork, and other operational documents as needed.
  • Maintain clean equipment, promptly report maintenance or delivery issues, and communicate effectively with dispatch and management to support daily operations.
  • Adhere to all company policies, DOT regulations, and applicable traffic laws.
  • Fully understand how to operate and safely drive a tractor trailer.
  • Transport goods from the place of origin to assigned destination.
  • Pick-up loads and organize goods in an ordered, logical manner.
  • Ensure contents are properly secured inside the truck to prevent breakage or damage.
  • Safely and efficiently handle and unload goods at selected destinations.
  • Obtain signatures to confirm and complete deliveries with customers.
  • Stay on a predetermined route and ensure timely deliveries.
  • Communicate with dispatch as needed.
  • Confirm contents of each shipment load matches the manifest document.
  • Perform inspections of your vehicle prior to and following each trip.
  • Always ensure your vehicle is kept clean.
  • Notify managers of any major maintenance or delivery issues encountered.
  • Adhere to company rules and regulations.
  • Obey all applicable traffic laws and drive according to the weather/road conditions.
  • Comply with DOT regulations and make safety a priority at all times.
Truck Driver Requirements And Qualifications
  • Valid Class A driver’s license required
  • 1+ years proven experience with tractor-trailer driving preferred.
  • Clean driving record with no more than 1 moving violation.
  • Must pass a background check and DOT drug and alcohol test.
  • Skilled at driving large vehicles
  • Comfortable maneuvering, parking and backing a tractor-trailer.
  • Alert, focused, and detail-oriented.
  • Proficient using GPS and E-log systems.
  • Disciplined, dependable, and resourceful.
