Job Description
The Order Selector works in a mid‑sized, organized warehouse as part of a team to accurately pick, move, and prepare inventory for shipment and receiving. This role involves frequent lifting, extensive walking, and operating material handling equipment to ensure orders are fulfilled safely, efficiently, and on time.
Responsibilities
- Select and pick orders accurately based on order sheets and warehouse management system (WMS) instructions.
- Operate sit‑down and stand‑up forklifts to pull material and inventory from shelves and storage locations.
- Use an electric pallet jack to move pallets and materials throughout the warehouse.
- Lift and move inventory weighing up to 65 lbs multiple times within set time frames, including hand‑picking pallets when required.
- Use RF scanners to locate, select, stock, and stow materials as needed.
- Perform inventory control tasks, including cycle counts and verification of stock levels using RF scanning tools.
- Shrink wrap products and pallets to prepare them securely for shipment.
- Maintain accuracy and attention to detail when reading, understanding, and following work orders and pick tickets.
- Keep work areas clean, organized, and free of hazards to support a safe warehouse environment.
- Collaborate with a team of approximately seven colleagues to meet daily productivity and quality targets.
- Walk and stand for the majority of the shift while moving throughout the warehouse to complete picking assignments.
Essential Skills
- Previous experience in an order selecting role, including recent order picking experience of 1 or more years.
- Forklift experience of 1–3 years minimum, including both sit‑down and stand‑up forklifts.
- Ability to safely lift up to 65 lbs repeatedly, including lifting 65 lbs multiple times within 1.5 minutes or less.
- Experience operating an electric pallet jack in a warehouse environment.
- Inventory control and RF scanning or cycle count experience for 2–4 years, ideally.
- Familiarity with warehouse management systems (WMS) and RF scanners.
- Ability to understand, read, and comprehend work orders and related documentation.
- Capability to walk and stand for the bulk of the day in a fast‑paced warehouse setting.
- General labor experience in a warehouse or material handling environment.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience in a unionized warehouse environment is beneficial.
- Comfort working with bulk materials and palletized loads.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy when picking and staging orders.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a small team and communicate clearly with coworkers and supervisors.
Work Environment
This role is based in an organized, mid‑sized warehouse handling bulk materials. The schedule runs Monday through Friday, with a typical shift from 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. or until work is finished, and there is little, if any, overtime. The work involves extensive walking and standing, frequent lifting of up to 65 lbs, and regular use of sit‑down and stand‑up forklifts, electric pallet jacks, RF scanners, and a warehouse management system.
The environment emphasizes safety, organization, and teamwork, with a structured union setting and consistent hours.
Job Type & Location
This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Richmond, VA.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $18.00/hr.
