Job Overview

JR PAT Testing is an expanding PAT and Compliance Company currently looking for engineers to join our team in Rickmansworth. We offer self‑employed positions with flexible hours, allowing interested individuals to work either part‑time or full‑time. All applicants must have a reasonable commuting distance of Rickmansworth or closer.

To apply, you must have your transport or means to get to work and equipment, hold a City & Guilds 2377 PAT qualification or equivalent, be reliable and honest, as well as have a ‘can‑do’ attitude. All necessary equipment, including testing instruments, measuring devices, and additional tools, must be kept up to date and meet relevant regulations.

Potential earnings are on a pro‑rata basis depending on the rate per appliance, the number of tests and job dynamics. Jobs range from one‑day projects to long‑term contracts.

Typical Day

As a PAT engineer, days vary. You will travel to sites ranging from hospitals to retail outlets, pack tools and equipment into the van, conduct tests on appliances such as microwaves, kettles, and computers, inform users of results, record findings in reports or electronic systems, and complete required paperwork.

You will need to stay organised, complete tests accurately and efficiently, and keep pace with a moving schedule.

Pat testing is physically and mentally demanding, but rewarding, offering opportunities for advancement.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct PAT tests on electrical appliances.

  • Maintain and calibrate testing instruments at least once a year.
  • Comply with all safety regulations and company procedures.
Qualifications
  • City & Guilds 2377 PAT qualification or equivalent.
  • Reliable, honest, and possess a ‘can‑do’ attitude.
  • Must have own insurance and equipment calibrated annually.
  • Proven competence in line with C&G standards.
  • Self‑employed: able to manage own business and time.
Compensation

Payments are discussed per job; earnings depend on rate per appliance, number of tests, and job dynamics.
