Job OverviewThe Site Safety and Health Officer (SSHO) will prepare and enforce Chugach’s safety program for the maintenance operations support team of skilled and semi‑skilled tradespeople at Naval Air Facility, El Centro, CA. The contract will cover general service work, general maintenance, base support vehicles and equipment, environmental, and other base services. The SSHO is responsible for implementing and administering Chugach’s safety program and the government‑accepted Accident Prevention Plan.
This position is designed to establish a culture of safety throughout the contractual organization.
Work Model:
Onsite/Office Based
- Responsible for risk mitigation of all hazards identified in Chugach’s Safety and Health Program IAW the accepted Accident Prevention Plan and be on‑site at all times when work that presents the hazards associated with your professional expertise is being performed.
- Acts as primary point of contact for all safety‑related issues.
- Ensures a high level of internal and external customer service; investigates and corrects safety‑related problems and risks.
- Develops, implements, and maintains safety practices associated with assigned departments and interrelated departments that align with Chugach’s culture of safety.
- Establishes safety programs aimed at aligning all operational functions with a forward‑looking structure; includes preparing, approving safety procedures, providing work instructions/procedures/check sheets, and maintaining internal safety programs.
- Develops and presents company and contract information at all‑hands meetings.
- Ensures departmental reporting and data calls are executed timely, complete, and accurately.
- Fosters teamwork between departments on safety‑related issues.
- Provides clear and decisive written and oral communication.
- Establishes and maintains good working relationships with government and internal customers.
- Works professionally and collaboratively with all contract and company personnel.
- Maintains a high degree of professionalism and works well at all levels of the organization.
- Operates government and Chugach‑owned motor vehicles.
- Adheres to established company safety personnel and SOPs and policies.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Five years of satisfactory experience in preparing and enforcing safety programs on contracts of similar size and complexity in the past three years, or three years’ experience if you possess a Certified Safety Professional (CSP) license or a safety and health degree.
- Must possess a 30‑hour OSHA construction safety class or equivalent within the last three years and have completed person training as well.
- Must maintain competency through 24 hours of formal safety‑ and health‑related coursework over four years.
- Meets the requirements of EM 385‑1‑1 Section 1.
