Description
Boehringer Ingelheim is seeking a highly motivated Senior Scientist – Preclinical PK/PD Modeler to join the Preclinical PK/PD Modeling group in the global Drug Discovery Sciences (DDS) department. The position is located at our US research site in Ridgefield, CT.
As a member of the DDS US group, at Boehringer Ingelheim’s US research facility in Ridgefield, CT, a successful Senior Scientist will design and implement empiric to mechanistic PK/PD models, including quantitative systems pharmacology models in support of Boehringer Ingelheim’s innovative drug discovery NBEs, NCEs, and NTMs R&D portfolio. They will represent the PK/PD modeling discipline on multi-disciplinary teams and integrate PK/PD considerations into team strategy.
They will collaborate with key stakeholders in drug discovery, pre-clinical and clinical development in support of the overall translational research strategy for projects and enhance capabilities of our group by implementing novel modeling approaches and technologies to achieve ambitious portfolio timelines and goals.

- Independently develops PK/PD and quantitative systems pharmacology models that enhance decision making for novel therapeutic target and candidate selections and inform translational research strategies for novel therapeutics across multiple therapeutic areas like Oncology, Immunology, Cardiometabolic Diseases and more.
- Uses modeling and simulation for early dose feasibility assessment, predict human PK and efficacious dose/dose regimen, and influences selection of first-in-human starting dose.
- Designs, analyzes and interprets quantitative pharmacology and in vitro, ex vivo and in vivo PK/PD studies and communicates results to teams and management.
- Leverages literature data or proposes new experiments to validate models or test model-generated hypotheses.
- Develops new methodologies, protocols or procedures that contribute to core group/research goals and reflect expert knowledge.
- Serves as PK/PD modeling representative on multiple cross-functional project teams.
- Effectively collaborates with scientists within and outside functional area (e.g. therapeutic area biologists, protein engineering scientists, Clinical Pharmacology & Pharmacometricians).
- Demonstrates collaborative excellence in a highly matrixed work environment across global teams.
- Develops broad knowledge in field of expertise, including the ability to interpret current literature relevant to R&D projects, and visibility outside of functional area.
- Presents work at internal/external scientific meetings and publishes work in scientific journals.
- Ph.D. in Pharmacokinetics, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Pharmacology, Quantitative fields such as applied mathematics, pharmacometrics, biomedical and chemical engineering or related discipline with proven track record of applying biomedical modeling and simulation approaches in academia or industry.
- Theoretical and practical knowledge of pharmacokinetics, PK/PD and quantitative systems pharmacology modeling.
- Experience using one or more commercially available modeling and simulation platforms (e.g. Phoenix/Win Nonlin, NONMEM, MATLAB, Sim Biology, R, Julia, etc.).
- Experience and the ability to review relevant scientific literature.
- Preferentially, experience in mechanism-based PK/PD modeling of therapeutic proteins.
- Ability to build effective working relationships and influence others both inside and outside department.
