Description

As an employee of Boehringer Ingelheim, you will contribute to the discovery, development, and delivery of our products to patients and customers, working within a global presence that encourages international collaboration and visibility.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Contribute to building a Global Oncology Research organization by connecting with other sites and integrating an Oncology mindset in all activities.
  • As a member of the Global Oncology Research leadership team, develop and steer the implementation of an Immuno-Oncology strategy that aligns with overall Discovery Research goals.
  • Build and maintain a cohesive immuno‑oncology organization and advance a portfolio with novel, first‑in‑class immunological concepts.
  • Actively contribute to portfolio review committees and lead the RDG Immuno‑Oncology scientific organization to meet scientific and portfolio goals.
  • Collate efforts across Oncology Research, Oncology Pharmacology, Disease Positioning, and other R&D functions to ensure scientific and portfolio deliverables.
  • Build a first‑in‑class, innovative portfolio using various modalities, including small molecules, biologics, and viral delivery systems.
  • Integrate emerging clinical learnings and trends into portfolio strategy and New Therapeutic Concept (NTC) discovery.
  • Leverage synergies with other units of Oncology Research and Therapeutic Areas for NTC discovery.
  • Maintain strong engagement with the Ridgefield scientific community and ensure all relevant documentation supports portfolio deliverables.
  • Expand external academic and biotech partnerships to discover novel biology and NTCs for the Immuno‑Oncology portfolio.
  • Manage external CRO functions to provide services for immune oncology research.
  • Publish, present, and actively participate in scientific conferences to build a strong external reputation.
  • Build and sustain connections with critical functions across Discovery Research and the Innovation Unit to support effective portfolio building and progression.
  • Develop and implement staffing strategies, retain high‑quality staff, and manage performance for direct and indirect reports.
  • Ensure compliance with required training, safety, regulatory, HR, laboratory notebook, intellectual property, and corporate policies.
Requirements
  • Ph.D. and/or M.D. in immunology, microbiology, virology, or related field with a strong understanding of immuno‑oncology concepts.
  • At least 15 years of experience post‑doctoral studies in drug discovery, with deep expertise in target discovery or exploration of novel biological pathways; 10+ years in biotechnology or pharmaceutical industry leading R&D programs from inception to first‑in‑phase 1.
  • Experience in T‑cell biology/assays and innovative ex vivo human immune‑oncology assays is desired.
  • Leadership experience with teams of 15 or more, demonstrating a collaborative mindset.
  • Broad, innovative thinker who applies immunological science to deliver breakthrough therapies.
  • Strong vision and executive presence, capable of inspiring followership and hiring/developing experts with deep technical expertise.
  • Excellent communication skills—oral, written, and scientific publications.
  • Position based on‑site in Ridgefield, CT; willingness to interact globally with colleagues in Austria, Switzerland, and the USA, including occasional travel.
  • Fluency in spoken and written English.
  • Strong research and publication record ensuring respect among peers and collaborators.
Eligibility Requirements
  • Legally authorized to work in the United States without restriction.
  • Willingness to take a drug test and a post‑offer physical if required.
  • Age 18 or older.
Compensation

The base salary range for this position is $250,000 to $394,000. The position may be eligible for discretionary bonus, relocation, and/or other compensation elements. Salary may be adjusted based on market data and job‑related factors such as skill, experience, and qualification. Benefits are described on the company benefits page.
