Scientist II – In Vivo Pharmacology / Cardio-Renal Research
Ridgefield, CT (Onsite)
24-Month Contract

Sigma Inc. is seeking a motivated Scientist II to join our research team in Ridgefield, CT. This onsite role is ideal for a hands-on scientist with strong in vivo experience and a background in cardiometabolic or cardio-renal biology who can work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities- Independently initiate and execute routine in vivo studies with minimal supervision
- Interpret experimental results and recommend next steps or follow-up studies
- Support the development and validation of rodent models for cardiometabolic diseases
- Design and conduct studies involving cardio-renal disease models (e.g., kidney injury, cardiovascular dysfunction, metabolic disorders)
- Perform dosing procedures including oral gavage, IP/IV/SC injections
- Conduct physiological and functional assessments such as blood pressure monitoring, telemetry, metabolic cage studies, and renal assays
- Collect and process biological samples (blood, urine, tissues) for downstream analysis
- Perform assays including histology, qPCR, ELISA, and biomarker analysis
- Analyze data and maintain high-quality documentation in compliance with SOPs and regulatory standards
- Collaborate cross-functionally with pharmacology, pathology, and bioanalytical teams
- Contribute to scientific discussions, presentations, and technical reports
- Propose and implement improvements based on scientific knowledge and literature insights
- Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot laboratory equipment
- Ensure compliance with IACUC protocols, safety standards, and ethical animal care guidelines
- Bachelor’s degree in a scientific discipline with 3+ years of relevant experience, OR
- Master’s degree with 2–3 years of relevant experience
- Experience in pharmaceutical, biotechnology, or CRO environments preferred
- No PhD candidates, please
- Strong understanding of physiology, pharmacology, and cardio-renal disease mechanisms
- Hands-on experience with:
- In vivo rodent models (rats and mice)
- Dosing techniques (oral gavage, injections)
- Physiological monitoring and functional assays
- Sample collection and processing
- Molecular/biochemical assays (qPCR, ELISA, histology)
- Ability to independently design, execute, and troubleshoot experiments
- Strong data analysis, interpretation, and documentation skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Proficiency with scientific software and data tools
- Ability to work in a vivarium and laboratory setting, including:
- Standing for extended periods (>2 hours)
- Working under biosafety cabinets
- Lifting up to 20 lbs, bending, and reaching
- Daily handling and restraint of small laboratory animals (rats, mice; >50 at a time)
- Use of appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE)
- Willingness to support weekend work as needed
- Ability to thrive in a collaborative, fast-paced research environment
- Prior experience in cardio-renal or metabolic disease research
- Familiarity with drug discovery and development processes
- Experience contributing to scientific reports, presentations, or publications
