Controller
Service Specialists recruiting agency is seeking an experienced Controller for a well-established company based in Richland, Mississippi. This is a key financial leadership position responsible for leading the accounting team and overseeing the company's core accounting functions. The Controller will work closely with operations leadership, providing accurate financial reporting, insight into project performance, and strategic financial guidance to support business decisions.
The ideal candidate has a strong accounting foundation, understands project-based financials, and can effectively lead both the day-to-day accounting function and higher-level financial analysis.
Key responsibilities include:
- Leading all accounting functions, including accounts receivable, accounts payable, payroll accounting, fixed assets, job costing, and revenue recognition
- Leading and supporting the accounting team
- Managing month-end close and preparing monthly financial reporting
- Analyzing contracts in progress and managing percentage-of-completion accounting
- Maintaining accurate job costing and project financial reporting
- Ensuring financial reporting is consistent with GAAP
- Monitoring cash and available funds and providing regular reporting to management
- Partnering closely with operations leadership and providing strategic financial insight
- Preparing and overseeing sales tax, property tax, and other required business tax filings
- Identifying opportunities to strengthen accounting processes, reporting, and internal controls
Qualifications include:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting required
- CPA preferred, but not required
- Minimum of 7 years of relevant accounting experience
- Construction industry experience preferred
- Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting
- Experience with job costing, revenue recognition, and percentage-of-completion accounting strongly preferred
- Strong leadership, communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office
- Experience with accounting platforms such as Sage or Quick Books
- Ability to work collaboratively with both accounting and operational teams
Compensation and benefits include:
- $125,000-$140,000 salary
