Math Interventionist

The Math Interventionist provides targeted instructional support to students who are performing below grade level in mathematics. This position is responsible for planning and delivering small-group intervention, analyzing assessment data, monitoring student progress, and collaborating with teachers to ensure strong Tier I, Tier II, and Tier III supports. The Interventionist works closely with school leadership to implement evidence-based strategies that improve academic outcomes for students.

Reports to building principal.

Instruction & Intervention

  • Provide targeted small-group instruction in Math based on student needs.
  • Implement evidence-based intervention programs with fidelity.
  • Differentiate lessons to meet diverse learning needs and support multilingual learners and students with learning gaps.
  • Use district intervention materials, diagnostic assessments, and instructional tools appropriately and consistently.
  • Collaborate with classroom teachers to support Tier I instruction and reinforce classroom learning objectives.

Data Analysis & Progress Monitoring

  • Analyze district and school-based data (benchmark assessments, progress monitoring, classroom assessments) to identify students in need of intervention.
  • Maintain accurate records of student progress using district-approved tools.
  • Use data to adjust instruction, group students flexibly, and identify trends that require instructional shifts.
  • Participate in MTSS/RTI meetings and contribute to data discussions and intervention planning.

Collaboration & Communication

  • Meet regularly with teachers, instructional coaches, and administrators to discuss student progress and intervention strategies.
  • Communicate with parents/guardians regarding student needs, progress, and home support strategies when appropriate.
  • Assist in providing professional development on intervention strategies, data use, and instructional best practices as requested.

Professional Responsibilities

  • Maintain confidentiality of student records and adhere to district policies.
  • Engage in ongoing professional development to strengthen instructional practices and intervention skills.
  • Participate in school-wide initiatives, data cycles, and instructional planning sessions.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the principal and district leadership.
  • Attend relevant professional development opportunities and training sessions.
  • Collaborate with teachers to reflect on teaching practices and implement evidence-based improvements.
  • Interacts with students, staff, and parents in a professional and cooperative manner.

Job Specifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Education, or a related field is required;
    Master's degree preferred.
  • Minimum of three years of teaching experience.
  • Experience in working with small groups and differentiating instruction.
  • Experience with MTSS/RTI frameworks.
  • Training in evidence-based intervention programs (e.g., LETRS, OG-based instruction, i-Ready, MAP data analysis).
  • Strong data-analysis and instructional planning skills.
  • Experience working with multilingual learners.

Knowledge & Skills

  • Knowledge of math foundational skills, literacy development, and numeracy progressions.
  • Ability to analyze student assessment data and use it to drive instruction.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills.
  • Ability to build relationships with students and motivate reluctant learners.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills.
  • Commitment to equity, closing achievement gaps, and supporting diverse learners.

Working Conditions

  • Office and school environment with minimal exposure to environmental conditions.
  • Physical demands are restricted to standard office activities and movement within classrooms.
  • Occasional travel within the district for professional development and support visits.
